Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's basketball team (2-5) dropped its second consecutive road contest on Sunday at LIU Brooklyn 58-48, despite a season-high 16 points from senior
Christa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, N.Y.).
McCombs' Reaction
"We started slow and allowed 18 first quarter points," said head coach
Caroline McCombs. "When you do that it is difficult to win on the road, especially when you shoot 30% and turn the ball over 18 times."
Turning Point
Stony Brook was outscored 14-8 in the second quarter and went into the break trailing 32-24. The Seawolves were able to chip away at the deficit and pull within four at 38-34 before the Blackbirds rattled off a 7-0 run to close the quarter. Stony Brook got as close as six, 54-48, after a Scognamiglio corner three with 35 seconds to play, but the Blackbirds scored the game's final four points from the line to secure the victory.
