Tip-Off: The Stony Brook men's basketball team will look to extend the nation's longest active winning streak to 17 games Thursday at UMBC. Josh Caray will broadcast the action on WHLI 1370 AM.
Opponent: UMBC, which didn't play Monday, is coming off an 83-79 win at Maine on February 6. Jairus Lyles scored 37 points, the third-most in Retrievers history, and led four scorers in double figures. In 14 games this season, Lyles is averaging 25.4 points per game. Rodney Elliott is second on the team with 13.2 points per game.
Series: Stony Brook leads the all-time series, 20-8, winning 15 straight games dating back to 2009. In games played at UMBC, the Seawolves are 8-4.
Last Time Out: Senior Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) enjoyed the best game of his career, scoring a career-high 36 points to lead the Seawolves to a 85-72 win over Hartford Monday at Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
Warney shot 16 of 18 from the field and 4 of 4 from the line, registering his third 30-point effort of his career. He also totaled 13 rebounds, accounting for his 56th career double-double.
Senior Carson Puriefoy (Wenonah, N.J.) added 22 points. It was the most combined points scored by Warney and Puriefoy since they came to Stony Brook in 2012. Their previous best was 54 against Hartford in the season finale last season.
The Seawolves (20-4, 11-0) extended the nation's longest active winning streak to 16 games on Jameel Warney Bobblehead Night.
The win was Stony Brook's 250th as a Division I program. The Seawolves have won at least 20 games for a fifth straight year and six out of the last seven.
Pancake Thomas had 23 points for Hartford (7-18, 2-8).
