Seawolves drop close one at New Hampshire, 49-46

Durham, N.H. - The Stony Brook women's basketball team (16-10, 8-5 AE) had a chance to tie the New Hampshire Wildcats (9-16, 3-9 AE) in the game's final possession, but junior Kori Bayne-Walker's desperation three hit the side of the rim in a 49-46 loss.

Turning Point

Stony Brook took its first lead of the game, 36-35, on a layup from freshman Ogechi Anyagaligbo (Miami, Fla.) with 9:36 to play in the fourth quarter, but New Hampshire responded with a quick 6-0 spurt to regain the lead, 41-36. Stony Brook pulled within one point on three occassions, but could never retake the lead. New Hampshire went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes to force Bayne-Walker into the off-balance heave at the end of the game.

Inside the Numbers

  • Stony Brook finished 16-for-53 (30.2%) from the field and 3-for-15 (20.0%) from three. New Hampshire went 18-for-56 (32.1%) from the floor and 1-for-8 from downtown (12.5%). 
  • Both teams were efficient from the free-throw stripe. Stony Brook finished 11-for-13 (84.6%), while the Wildcats went 12-for-13 (92.3%).
  • New Hampshire outrebounded Stony Brook, 39-36.
  • Stony Brook recorded 11 assists to New Hampshire's five.

  • Junior Christa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, N.Y.) scored a team-high 13 points, connecting on 3-of-7 three-point field goal attempts.
