Stony Brook's season ends with 67-60 loss to Youngstown State in WBI

Youngstown, Ohio - The Stony Brook women's basketball team's (17-15, 8-8 AE) season came to an end with a 67-60 loss at Youngstown State in the first round of the WBI on Wednesday night.

Turning Point

Sophomore Elizabeth Manner (Vienna, Va.) drilled a three with 5:22 to play to give Stony Brook a 53-52 lead, but the Penguins responded with three-pointer's of their own on back-to-back possessions to take a 58-53 lead with 4:32 remaining. Trailing 62-53, freshman Davion Wingate (Atlanta, Ga.) converted an old-fashioned three-point play to get the Seawolves within six, but they wouldn't get any closer over the final two minutes. 

Inside the Numbers

  • The Seawolves made 21-of-60 (35.0%) shots, while the Penguins converted 27-of-55 (49.1%) of their shots.
  • Stony Brook connected on 3-of-17 (17.6%) three-pointers, while Youngstown State hit 6-of-18 (33.3%).
  • The Seawolves got to the line 20 times, converting 15 (75.0%), while Youngstown State made 7-of-10 (70.0%) free throws.
  • Stony Brook held a 38-28 advantage over the Penguins on the glass thanks to 13 rebounds from senior Brittany Snow (Shamong, N.J.), tying her career-high.
  • Stony Brook outscored Youngstown State 11-2 in second chance points and 8-4 in fastbreak points.
  • Led by 11 points from Wingate, the Stony Brook bench totalled 21 points.

Notes
  • In her final game of her career, Snow notched 10 points to go along with her 13 boards for her seventh double-double of the season and the 10th of her career.
  • Junior Kori-Bayne Walker (Rochester, N.Y.) scored a team-high 14 points, also leading the team with five assists and four steals.
  • Stony Brook and Youngstown State combined for just 14 points in the first quarter before exploding for a combined 42 points in the second period.
  • Manner scored eight points off the bench, all in the second half.
  • For the second consecutive season the Seawolves finish with 17 wins.
