Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Seawolves down Seton Hall, 2-0

South Orange, N.J. - Senior Eduardo Valle (Miami, Fla.) scored his first career goal as the Stony Brook men's soccer team (1-1) knocked off Seton Hall (1-1) 2-0 on Sunday night.

Anatol's Reaction

"The guys put in a gutsy road performance tonight," said head coach Ryan Anatol. "It's always nice to get an early goal, but I liked how we didn't sit back after we took the lead and were able to dictate the play for the majority of the 90 minutes.

Highlights

  • Sophomore Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) gave the Seawolves a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute with a header from eight yards out. The ball got to Gamwanya after senior Lars Togstad (Trondheim, Norway) flicked on a long throw from junior Barnabas Mako (Budapest, Hungary).
  • Junior Tom McMahon (Nassau Bay, Texas) made a huge stop on Seton Hall's Shawn Morrison in the 22nd minute, getting down quick to make a kick save on a point blank shot from 10 yards out.
  • McMahon made another huge stop in the 47th minute, diving to his left to palm away a good attempt from Patrick Purd to preserve the 1-0 lead.
  • Valle's goal in the 54th minute gave the Seawolves a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Thibault Duval (Liege, Belgium) created the chance with a cross to the far post. Freshman Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) raced on the end of it and squared the ball back to Valle who directed it into the vacant net.

Notes

  • McMahon made six saves to record his fifth career shutout.
  • Stony Brook outshot Seton Hall 13-12 and held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
  • Valle had four shots and three shots on goal, while Gamwanya added three shots.
  • Duval is the team's active leader in assists with nine.
  • Dass and Togstad recorded their first career points.
