STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook women's basketball team held Maine to just 10 points in the second half on its way to a 55-41 victory Saturday afternoon at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 8-8 and 1-2 in the America East, while the Black Bears drop to 9-9 and 2-2 in conference play.
Coach McCombs' Reaction
"I thought our team was locked in and ready to play after having a week break following the Albany game. We did a good job of executing our game plan. Maine is a good team, and very skilled offensively, so for us to be able to hold them to 41 points makes me very proud of our team defense."
Turning Point
The Seawolves trailed 31-28 at the half and 33-30 after trading baskets to open the third quarter. Stony Brook then proceeded to hold Maine off the board for a span of 9:20, opening up an 11-point lead. The Seawolves surrendered just four points in the third quarter and six in the final stanza for the 14-point victory.
