STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior
Kori Bayne-Walker (Rochester, N.Y.) broke the Stony Brook women's basketball career assists record as the Seawolves put up a season-best point total in an 83-53 win over UMass Lowell Monday afternoon at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 9-8 and 2-2 in the America East, while the River Hawks fall to 3-15 and 0-5 in conference play.
Coach McCombs' Reaction
"Our team was really committed to defending tonight. We did a really good job for three quarters … We had a bit of a let up in the third quarter and lost our focus, which is something we'll learn from.
"Kori sees the floor so well … That's just who she is as a basketball player. It's something that's really special. She makes everybody better with what she does on the floor."
Turning Point
The Seawolves led 20-16 at the end of the first quarter before a quality defensive effort in the second quarter extended the cushion. Stony Brook held UMass Lowell to six points in the frame – the fifth time in conference play that the Seawolves held a team to single-digits in a quarter – en route to a 38-22 halftime lead.
