Stony Brook heads to Hartford in America East Championship Quarterfinals

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Stony Brook women's soccer travels to Connecticut on Thursday, Oct. 26, squaring off with Hartford in the quarterfinal round of the America East Women's Soccer Championships. The Seawolves will enter the postseason conference tournament as the No. 5 seed, traveling to No. 4 Hartford for a 6 p.m. start time.

Stony Brook finished the 2017 season with a 4-4-0 record in league play, 8-10-0 overall. The Seawolves dropped their 2017 regular season finale on Sunday afternoon at Virtue Field, falling to Vermont by the final score of 2-0.

Scouting Hartford
  • Hartford went 4-3-1 in America East action this year, 8-8-2 overall.
  • Kaila Lozada and Bridgette Alexander both have a team-best seven goals this year. The Hawks have outscored opponents 30-26 in 2017.
  • Stony Brook is 3-13-5 all-time vs. Hartford. The Seawolves won the regular season meeting between the two programs this year, as Alyssa Francese (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored in double overtime to send the program home with a win.
Closing in on 100
Head Coach Brendan Faherty enters Thursday's matchup with 99 career wins as a collegiate head coach, needing just one more to hit the 100-win mark. Faherty won 82 games over eight seasons at the University of New Haven, and has 17 wins over his first two years at the helm of the Seawolves' program.

Stony Brook has scored 28 goals so far this season, which ranks tied for second in the America East.

The Seawolves have scored 12 times (tied for No. 2) in conference play, allowing just seven scores (tied for No. 1) in that span.

Freshman Alyssa Francese (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) enters postseason play with eight goals in 2017 – the most of any freshman in the conference and No. 4 overall.
 
Super Sofia
Freshman goalkeeper Sofia Manner (Helsinki, Finland) has allowed just five goals over eight America East contests, good for a 0.68 goals-against average – which ranks No. 2 in the conference.

Non-Conference Success
Stony Brook finished the 2017 non-conference portion of its schedule with four wins – the most victories in non-conference action for the program since the 2013 season.

Stony Brook has earned six America East weekly award honors so far this year: 2017 Preseason Poll
Stony Brook women's soccer was tabbed to finish No. 4 in the 2017 America East Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Wednesday, Aug. 9. The Seawolves finished with 45 total votes in the preseason poll. Hartford will enter 2017 as the favorite, receiving 58 total points (three first-place votes). Albany received 57 points (five first-place votes), and New Hampshire checked in just ahead of Stony Brook with 51 votes (one first-place vote).
 
2016 Season
Faherty guided the Seawolves to a 9-8-3 record during his first year with the program in 2016. The team earned its first America East playoff appearance since the 2013 season after notching a Division-I era record six straight conference wins in league play. Faherty earned America East Coach of the Year honors, and saw six players earn all-conference accolades, including two on the first team.
