STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook women's soccer will travel to No. 3 Penn State in the first round of the 2017 Division I Women's Soccer Championship on Friday, Nov. 10. The field of 64 total teams - which will compete for the 36th NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship - was announced on Monday, Nov. 6 during the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Selection Show.
The Seawolves (11-10-0, 4-4-0 AEC) topped Vermont, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in the 2017 America East Women's Soccer Championship, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history. Alyssa Francese (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Manuela Corcho (Norwalk, Conn.) both scored in the victory for the Seawolves. Kimmy Chavkin (Franklin, N.J.), Sydney Vaughn(Ballwin, MO.), Manuela Corcho (Norwalk, Conn.) and Franki Priore (Merrick, N.Y.) were all named to the America East All-Championship Team. Vaughn earned the tournament's Most Outstanding Player Award.
The first-round matchup between Stony Brook and Penn State will be the first between the two programs. Kickoff from Jeffrey Field will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
