STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's basketball returns to Island Federal Credit Union Arena on Thursday afternoon, hosting Iona in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out
• Stony Brook women's basketball fell at Big Ten foe Northwestern, 68-36, on Sunday afternoon at Beardsly Gym in non-conference action. With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 5-4 so far in 2017-18.

Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-high 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, grabbing four rebounds in the loss. Matthews has now led Stony Brook in scoring in two straight contests, and has tallied six double-digit point games this year.

Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) added six points, seven assists and three rebounds. Johnson's seven-assist performance ties a season high, which she has now achieved four times in 2017-18.
• The Seawolves are now 0-8 all-time vs. current members of the Big Ten.
Scouting Iona
• The Gaels enter Thursday night's contest at 0-8 so far in 2017-18, falling at Fordham, 78-48, its last time out.
• Alexis Lewis leads Iona with 13.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
• Stony Brook is 5-5 all-time vs. Iona. The Seawolves dropped their 2016-17 regular season opener at Iona, 57-46, on Nov. 11, 2016 in the last meeting between the two programs.
Seawolves vs. the MAAC
Stony Brook is 4-1 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents since the start of the 2015-16 season. The Seawolves topped Iona and Saint Peter's in non-conference action during the 2015-16 season, lost vs. Iona then bested Manhattan in 2016-17, then defeated Manhattan again to open the 2017-18 slate on Nov. 11, 2017.

Caroline McCombs enters her fourth season as the head coach of the Stony Brook women's basketball team in 2017-18, as the Seawolves' head coach has risen among the winningest coaches in Stony Brook's Division I era.
• With five victories to begin the 2017-18 season, McCombs has now won 51 games on Long Island – which ranks second among Stony Brook coaches in the Division I era. McCombs guided the Seawolves' program to 17 wins in 2014-15, 17 victories in 2015-16, and 12 wins this year.

Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J.) is currently averaging 10.3 rebounds per contest, which ranks No. 2 in the America East and No. 30 nationally. Clark grabbed 23 rebounds on Dec. 6 vs. Yale, the third-highest single-game rebound total for any player in the country this season.
Johnson from Distance
Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) has drained 26 3-point field goals so far in nine games for the Seawolves, which ranks No. 1 in the America East. Johnson is No. 52 in the nation in 3-point field goals per game (2.89).
Daunting Defense
Stony Brook has allowed just 56.4 points per contest, which ranks No. 34 in the nation and best in the America East. The program has forced opponents to shoot just 24.6 percent from beyond the arc, which checks in at No. 20 nationally and best in the America East. Opponents have shot just 37.1 percent from the floor vs. the Seawolves.
