STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's basketball takes its two-game winning streak to Georgia Southern on Thursday, Dec. 21, squaring off with the Eagles in non-conference action at 2 p.m.
Scouting Georgia Southern
- Georgia Southern is 3-7 so far this season, most recently falling vs. IUPUI, 72-52, on Dec. 18. The Eagles have lost their last four contests after starting the 2017-18 season at 3-3 overall.
- Nakol Franks has tallied 9.3 points per contest to lead the way for Georgia Southern so far, while Sierra Butler has chipped in with 9.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
- Thursday's meeting between Stony Brook and Georgia Southern will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.
Last Time Out
- Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J) recorded her third double-double of the season on Sunday afternoon at Island Federal Credit Union Arena, leading Stony Brook women's basketball past Central Connecticut State, 60-55, in non-conference action.
- With the win, the Seawolves improve to 7-4 so far in 2017-18 – the program's best start since the 2013-14 campaign.
- Clark paced Stony Brook with 14 points and 15 rebounds, including a career-best 11 offensive boards in the victory. The junior transfer's 11 offensive rebounds is the most of any America East player in a single game so far this year, and just three rebounds behind Ohio State's Stephanie Mavunga – who grabbed 14 offensive rebounds vs. Stanford (Nov. 10, 2017). Clark went 7-for-17 from the floor, registering her second-highest point total in the win.
- Freshman India Pagan (New London, Conn.) tallied 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds on 5-of-6 shooting.
- Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) and Aaliyah Worley (Philadelphia, PA) both chipped in with nine points in the win.
Head Coach Caroline McCombs

Caroline McCombs is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Stony Brook women's basketball team in 2017-18, as the Seawolves' head coach has risen among the winningest coaches in Stony Brook's Division I era.
• With seven victories to begin the 2017-18 season, McCombs has now won 53 games on Long Island – which ranks second among Stony Brook coaches in the Division I era. McCombs guided the Seawolves' program to 17 wins in 2014-15, 17 victories in 2015-16, and 12 wins in 2016-17.
America East Weekly Awards

India Pagan was named America East Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Dec. 18. The first-year forward tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds on 9-of-11 shooting in a pair of Stony Brook wins this past week.

Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J.) is currently averaging 10.4 rebounds per contest, which ranks No. 2 in the America East and No. 27 nationally. Clark grabbed 23 rebounds on Dec. 6 vs. Yale, the third-highest single-game rebound total for any player in the country this season. She then recorded 11 offensive rebounds on Dec. 17 vs. CCSU, and now ranks No. 11 in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (5.0).
Johnson from Distance
Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) has drained 30 3-point field goals so far in 11 games for the Seawolves, which ranks No. 1 in the America East and No. 41 nationally.
Daunting Defense
Stony Brook has allowed just 55.4 points per contest, which ranks No. 25 in the nation and best in the America East. The program has forced opponents to shoot just 25.4 percent from beyond the arc, which checks in at No. 17 nationally and best in the America East. Opponents have shot just 37.0 percent from the floor vs. the Seawolves.

Stony Brook is 12-5 in its last 17 non-conference contests, dating back to Dec. 11, 2016.
Preseason Poll
The Seawolves were selected to finish No. 8 in the 2017-18 America East Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Oct. 19, 2017. Stony Brook received 16 total votes in the poll. New Hampshire was voted as the unanimous league favorite, garnering 64 total votes.
