Stony Brook outlasted in overtime by Maine, 78-71

BANGOR, Maine – Senior Kori Bayne-Walker (Rochester, N.Y.) matched a career-high with 25 points, but the Stony Brook women's basketball team was held off in overtime by Maine, 78-71, Sunday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center. In the defeat, the Seawolves drop to 10-15 and 3-9 in the America East, while the Black Bears improve to 15-13 and 8-5 in conference play.

"We really battled back after that first quarter… We were able to attack the basket. I liked our fight, I liked our comeback, I liked what we did. We just fell a couple points short."
 
Turning Point
The Seawolves forced overtime on a layup by senior Christa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, N.Y.) with seven seconds remaining in regulation, followed by a defensive stop. Maine controlled the extra frame, opening up an eight-point lead at 76-68 before Stony Brook pulled the final margin to seven.
 
By the Numbers
- Sophomore Davion Wingate (Atlanta, Ga.) chipped in 19 points for the Seawolves, while Scognamiglio added nine points, four rebounds and three steals.
- Junior Aaliyah Worley (Philadelphia, Pa.) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
- The Seawolves grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, while total rebounds were even at 41.
- Stony Brook collected 19 of its 71 points from the free-throw line.
- The Seawolves trailed 22-10 in the second quarter before Stony Brook rattled off a 10-0 run. Maine led 28-22 at the half.
