STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team remains on the road this weekend as it travels to Queens to take on St. John's Sunday afternoon. The Seawolves will look to keep rolling on the road after opening the season with a dramatic win at Sacred Heart. St. John's is looking to bounce back after falling to Rutgers in its opener.
Scouting St. John's
St. John's is coming off of a 16-8 loss to No. 16/19 Rutgers at home last week. Despite close play to begin the game, the Scarlet Knights scored seven unanswered goals in the second quarter to create a lead they would never lose. Jack McClellan and Nick Heller led the way with two goals apiece for the Red Storm, while Heller also added an assist.
Daniel Costa made his first start in goal for St. John's and tallied 15 stops, despite allowing 16 goals.
Series Info
Stony Brook leads the all-time series with the Red Storm 5-4. The Seawolves took the edge in the series last season when they earned a 14-6 win at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Then-junior
Alex Corpolongo (Purdys, N.Y.) led the way for Stony Brook as he scored four goals and added an assist.
Brandon Maciejewski (Penn Yan, N.Y.) made his second appearance of the season, logging 29 minutes in goal. He made seven saves and allowed just one goal.
Last Time Out
It was a back-and-forth battle as the Seawolves were able to open the season with a victory for the third straight year, topping Sacred Heart on the road, 12-11. Freshman
Tom Haun (Sachem, N.Y.) impressed in his collegiate debut, leading the way with four goals. Corpolongo, Stony Brook's top returning scorer, added three goals and two assists, including the game-winner with 40 seconds remaining.
Both teams used multiple scoring sprees to erase a deficit no larger than three goals, and traded goals down the stretch, but the Seawolves were able to close it out.
Maciejewski got the start in goal and eared his second career win. He finished with 11 saves in the game.
