STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team hits the road this weekend, returning to league play to take on Vermont Saturday afternoon. The Seawolves faced back-to-back top 13 opponents in their last two outings and will look to right the ship in the weekend conference matchup. Vermont recently snapped a three-game skid with its first league win as it held on to top UMass Lowell last weekend.
Seawolves Notes
- Stony Brook ranks 16th in the nation, averaging 18.30 points per game, and 24th with 6.60 assists per game.
- Alex Corpolongo leads the team with 23 goals on the year, extending the second longest scoring streak in the country to 28 games with two goals against Princeton.
- Ryan Bitzer tallied two assists, to go along with two goals, to up his team-best points total to 34 and make it 31 straight games with a point.
- Tom Haun has notched six multi-goal games in his debut season with a hat trick in the Princeton game.
- Newcomers have been big contributors on the attack this season, they are responsible for 56 of the team's 117 goals.
- Michael Bollinger made his first start in goal at Hartford, picking up the win and making 10 saves. Despite a pair of losses to ranked opponents since, he has tallied 23 saves.
- The win over Fairfield marked the 200th win of Stony Brook head coach Jim Nagle's career.
- The Seawolves started the season 4-0, marking the best start in program history.
Scouting Vermont
The Catamounts enter the weekend at 5-6 on the season, 1-3 in America East play. They are coming off a 12-11 win at UMass Lowell, which snapped a three-game skid. UMass Lowell put away three late goals, including two in the final minute, but Vermont was able to hold on for the win. Cam Milligan and Dawes Milchling each notched hat tricks in the game.
Milligan leads the team with 38 points on the year, while Ben French has put away a team-best 23 goals. Charlie Erdmann handles the face-off and is winning at a .552 clip. Nick Washuta, who made 16 saves in the win over the weekend, boasts a .531 save percentage and 11.66 GAA.
Series Info
The Seawolves lead the all-time series with Vermont 17-1. The two teams first met on March 30, 2002, when Stony Brook topped the Catamounts 12-8 in New York. After taking the regular season meeting last year, the Seawolves fell 10-9 to Vermont in the America East Tournament semifinals.
Ryan Bitzer (Riverhead, N.Y.) helped lead the way with two goals in the game and
Alex Corpolongo (Purdys, N.Y.) had a chance to tie it when he fired a shot on target with under a minute remaining, but it bounced off the left post. Stony Brook has yet to drop a game in Burlington through seven previous trips.
Last Time Out
Stony Brook fought to the end, but No. 13 Princeton held on to claim a 13-11 win after going up with five minutes remaining in the game.
