NEW YORK – Stony Brook women's lacrosse senior
Dorrien Van Dyke (Northport, N.Y.) was selected by the Long Island Sound in Monday's United Women's Lacrosse League draft in Manhattan.
Van Dyke ranks second in program history in goals (175), fourth in points (242) and sixth in assists (67) and draw controls (154) through April 14, as the Seawolves midfielder earned a preseason All-America honor and Tewaaraton watch list spot in 2017. Her 31 goals, 13 assists, 44 points and 29 draw controls this season all rank third on the Seawolves, while she has also collected 24 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers.
Van Dyke is the fourth Stony Brook player or alumna to be picked by a UWLX team in the league's two-year history, joining Demmianne Cook '13 (Philadelphia), Frankie Caridi '14 (Baltimore) and
Alyssa Fleming '16 (Baltimore).
Stony Brook, which is 13-1 on the year, has risen to a program-record No. 4 in the IWLCA coaches poll and No. 3 in the Cascade/
Inside Lacrosse media poll. The Seawolves rank second in the nation in scoring defense (7.21) and scoring margin (8.21), while standing first in assists per game (10.14) and fourth in caused turnovers per game (12.21).
No. 4 Stony Brook returns to action Saturday when the Seawolves face UMBC at 11 a.m. in Baltimore.
