Seawolves look to keep rolling at UMass Lowell Friday night

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team will look to keep things going on the road this weekend as it travels to UMass Lowell for a Friday night match up. This will be the final conference game of the season for the River Hawks, who recently snapped a seven game skid with a win at Hartford over the weekend. The Seawolves are coming off a close one at Vermont, as they pulled off the one-goal win for their sixth victory of the season.
 
Seawolves Notes
  • Stony Brook ranks 15th in the nation, averaging 18.27 points per game, and 21st with 6.73 assists per game. The Seawolves also hold the 13th best shooting percentage in the country (.326).
  • Newcomers Tom Haun and Michael Bollinger earned America East Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, for their play at Vermont.
  • Alex Corpolongo leads the team with 27 goals on the year, extending the second longest scoring streak in the country to 29 games with four goals at Vermont.
  • Ryan Bitzer tallied two assists to go along with two goals in back-to-back games to up his team-best points total to 41 and make it 32 straight games with a point.
  • Tom Haun has notched seven multi-goal games in his debut season two goals at Vermont.
  • Corpolongo, Bitzer and Haun all rank in the top 25 nationally in an offensive category as Corpolongo sits at 25th in goals per game (2.45), Bitzer is 14th in assists per game (2.09) and Haun ranks ninth shooting percentage (.488).
  • Newcomers have been big contributors on the attack this season, they are responsible for 59 of the team's 127 goals.
  • Michael Bollinger notched his third double-digit save game through four starts. He tallied 12 stops, boasting a .571 save percentage at Vermont.
  • The win over Fairfield marked the 200th win of Stony Brook head coach Jim Nagle's career.
  • The Seawolves started the season 4-0, marking the best start in program history.
 
Scouting UMass Lowell
   The River Hawks enter the weekend at 3-11 on the season, 1-4 in America East play. They are coming off the first America East win in program history after topping Hartford 12-11 on the road on Saturday. The win snapped a seven-game skid for UMass Lowell, as Brandon Beland put away the game-winner with 1:41 remaining in the game.
   Sean Tyrell leads the team with 35 points on the year, by way of 15 goals and 20 assists. Brett Dattilo is in on the face-off for the River Hawks and has a .428 winning percentage, while Will Puduski leads the way on the defensive end with 53 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers. In cage has been Grant Lardieri, who had 17 saves in the win at Hartford, has a .498 save percentage and 12.06 GAA.
 
Series Info
   The Seawolves lead the all-time series 2-0, meeting in each of the last two seasons as UMass Lowell makes the move to Division I. Stony Brook picked up a 20-9 win in the first meeting in 2015, and claimed a 15-7 victory at home last season. Alex Corpolongo (Purdys, N.Y.) and Ryan Bitzer (Riverhead, N.Y.) helped lead the way with three points each.
 
Last Time Out
   The Seawolves added one to the win column over the weekend, holding on to top Vermont, 10-9, in Burlington. Corpolongo, Bitzer and Tom Haun (Sachem, N.Y.) sparked the Stony Brook offense, combining for 14 of the team's 18 points in the win.
   Bitzer got things going, scoring Stony Brook's first two goals of the game. Michael Bollinger (Sachem, N.Y.) made a big stop at the end of the first quarter to keep things tied at three at the end of the opening period. The Seawolves responded in the second, adding three goals, two from Haun, while Bollinger held Vermont scoreless.
   Stony Brook added three more in the third, but the Catamounts rallied late, scoring five goals in the fourth quarter. A big save from Bollinger in the final minute and Vermont's final attempt hitting the post helped the Seawolves preserve the road conference win.
 
Newcomers Earn America East Weekly Honors
   Haun and Bollinger were honored for their outstanding play at Vermont over the weekend, each earning America East weekly accolades for the first time this season. Haun was named the leagues Rookie of the Week after matching a season-best with six points in the win. He was in on six straight goals through the second and third quarters, finishing with two goals and four assists. Bollinger earned Defensive Player of the Week honors as he came up big for the Seawolves in goal. He made 12 stops in the game, including three big stops in the fourth quarter. He added five ground balls in just his fourth start of the season.
