LOWELL, Mass. -- It was a game of runs, as no lead for either team was safe throughout the night, but the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team was able to come out on top in extra time. The Seawolves held strong late in regulation and did not allow UMass Lowell to possess the ball in overtime, to earn a 12-11 victory at Cushing Field Friday night. Freshman
Connor Grippe was able to find the back of the goal on the set-up from senior
Ryan Bitzer as the Seawolves move to 7-5 on the year, 3-2 in league action. UMass Lowell wraps up play in the America East with a 1-5 record in conference, 3-12 on the year.

Nagle's Reaction
"This was another great team win for the guys," said head coach
Jim Nagle. "Alex [Corpolongo] got the game ball tonight, he made big play after big play for us all night long. UMass Lowell is a much improved team. Hats off to Ed Stephenson, his staff and their team on a great game."

Highlights
- The Seawolves dominated possession in the overtime period after winning the opening face-off. UMass Lowell got ahold of a loose rebound after Stony Brook's second attempt in extra time, but senior Ryan Bitzer (Riverhead, N.Y.) pressured the ball and was able to disrupt the clear attempt and pick up the ground ball.
- The Seawolves called a timeout following the UMass Lowell turnover. After moving the ball around, Bitzer tried to create a look for himself, drawing in the defense just enough to feed an open Connor Grippe (Setauket, N.Y.) to his right, who fired from distance and sealed the victory with 46 seconds left in overtime. Â
- Senior Alex Corpolongo (Purdys, N.Y.) seemed to capture the momentum for the Seawolves early in the fourth quarter as he put away back-to-back goals to give them a three-goal lead, 11-8. The River Hawks responded with three unanswered goals for the third time in the game to tie things up at 11 with 7:46 remaining.
- Neither team was able to add to their score by the end of regulation.
- The Seawolves took a 7-4 lead into the halftime break after putting away four straight goals in the final seven minutes of the first half. UMass Lowell wasted no time in the third quarter, scoring a man-up goal in the first 30 seconds of the new half.
- The River Hawks tacked on another in the final 30 seconds of the third quarter and got out to the same hot start to the fourth.
Â
Notes
- Corpolongo and Bitzer both extended their streaks after teaming on the first goal of the game, as Corpolongo has now scored in 30 straight games and Bitzer made it 33 games in a row with a point.
- Haun notched his eighth multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist in the win.
- Sophomore Owen Daly (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and graduate transfer Ryan Norton (Garden City, N.Y.) teamed up for Stony Brook's second goal of the game to each earn their first points of the season.
- This was Stony Brook's first overtime game of the season and first overtime win since topping Hartford 9-8 on the road on April 24, 2015.
