Seawolves to take on No. 13 Princeton Saturday night

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team returns to action Saturday night for its second straight game under the lights at LaValle Stadium. No. 13 Princeton takes a break from Ivy League play to face the Seawolves after topping Brown a week ago. Stony Brook is looking to bounce back this weekend after falling to No. 8 Albany Saturday.
 
Seawolves Notes
  • Alex Corpolongo leads the team with 21 goals on the year, extending the second longest scoring streak in the country to 27 games with a goal against Albany.
  • Ryan Bitzer tallied two assists against Albany to up his team-best points total to 32 and make it 29 straight games with a point.
  • Tom Haun has notched five multi-goal games in his debut season.
  • Newcomers have been big contributors on the attack his season, responsible for 52 of the team's 106 goals.
  • Following Saturday's game the Seawolves will have faced three of the top four scoring offenses in the nation. Stony Brook took on the top offense in the nation in Albany a week ago, and now welcomes Princeton, ranks third in the country in the category. Brown rounds out the group at No. 4 in the country.
  • Princeton is the fourth nationally ranked team the Seawolves have faced this season but the first opponent to rank 11-20, sitting at 13th in the coaches poll and 15th in the media poll.
  • Stony Brook is 1-3 this season against ranked opponents, topping then-No. 10 Brown early in the year, 25-17.
  • The win over Fairfield marked the 200th win of Stony Brook head coach Jim Nagle's career.
  • The Seawolves started the season 4-0, marking the best start in program history.
 
Scouting Princeton
   The Tigers sit at 6-3 on the year, 2-1 in Ivy League play. They are coming off of a 21-11 win over Brown last weekend. Michael Sowers and Gavin McBride put away five goals each in the victory as Sowers earned his fourth Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor. He ranks fourth in the nation in assists (3.00), third in points (5.67) and 15th in scoring (2.67). Zach Currier boasts a .505 winning percentage on the face-off and averages 8.44 ground balls, good for fourth in the nation. Tyler Blaisdell has manned the cage for the Tigers this season, playing all but 44 minutes. He boasts the team's record, a .574 save percentage and allows 10.53 goals per game.
   As a team, the Tigers are atop the nation, shooting .388 on the year and also lead the country with 14 saves per game. Additionally, the Tigers are top four in scoring offense, scoring margin, points, and assists.
 
Series Info
   The series with Princeton is locked at two games apiece, with the Seawolve taking each of the last two meetings. The Tigers won the first meeting in 1992 in New Jersey, 12-5, and followed it up with an 18-7 win the following year. Stony Brook notched back-to-back 13-10 wins in the last two seasons. Alex Corpolongo (Purdys, N.Y.) and Ryan Bitzer (Riverhead, N.Y.) each put away two goals in last year's road victory. Stony Brook led 7-5 at halftime, but the Tigers were able to get back within a goal in the fourth quarter. The Seawolves tacked on two more goals in the final period to help them hold on to the win.
 
Last Time Out
   The Seawolves looked to keep things going in league play over the weekend, but came up short as they fell to No. 8 Albany, 19-11. Freshman Cory VanGinhoven (Fort Mill, N.C.) led the attack for Stony Brook with three goals, while Connor Fields led Albany with four goals and four assists. The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead, starting the game with back-to-back goals, but Albany put away three straight to take its first lead of the day. An eight-goal second quarter put the game in the Great Danes' favor, giving them a 12-4 lead at the break. Stony Brook sparked a comeback, scoring four straight goals, but Albany matched the run to keep the distance. Freshman Michael Bollinger (Sachem, N.Y.) started his second straight game in goal and finished with 15 saves.
