Seniors Creighton and Honeyman lead Seawolves to season-opening victory at Nicholls

THIBODAUX, LA. – Senior 3B Bobby Honeyman's (Massapequa, N.Y.) three RBIs and senior LHP Cole Creighton's (Levittown, Pa.) first career victory on the mound led the Stony Brook baseball team to a season-opening 6-5 win over Nicholls State on Friday at Didier Field.

Honeyman had a two-run single in the fourth inning that gave the Seawolves (1-0) the lead and then doubled in the tying run in the sixth inning and came around to score the go-ahead run later in the inning.

Creighton tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief of sophomore starting pitcher Greg Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.), who went 4.0 innings and allowed just one earned run. Senior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) threw 1.1 scoreless innings to close the game and earn his fourth career save.

Turning Point
Stony Brook entered the sixth inning trailing Nicholls State 4-3, but Honeyman, sophomore SS Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) and junior 1B Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) each drove in runs that gave the Seawolves the lead.

Quoting head coach Matt Senk
"Despite our best efforts to try and beat ourselves early in the game we persevered, played hard and came up with a hard fought victory to start the season on a high note."
