STONY BROOK, N.Y. – No. 2 Stony Brook women's lacrosse returns to LaValle Stadium for its 2018 home opener on Sunday, Feb. 25, squaring off with No. 20 Denver at 12:00 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
  • Senior Kylie Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) scored six goals, leading No. 2 Stony Brook women's lacrosse past No. 23 Stanford, 15-9, on Monday evening at Cagan Stadium, With the win, the Seawolves improve to 2-0 (0-0 AE) so far in 2018.
  • Taryn Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) and Courtney Murphy (Shirley, N.Y.) both added three goals and two assists of their own. Murphy now has 13 total points in 2018, while Taryn Ohlmiller has 12.
  • Samantha DiSalvo (Lynbrook, N.Y.)Ally Kennedy (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Mackenzie Burns (West Sayville, N.Y.) all scored once in the victory for Stony Brook.
Scouting Denver
  • Denver is 3-0 so far in 2018, topping Stanford, Louisville and San Diego State to begin the season.
  • The program has been ranked No. 20 nationally in the latest Inside Lacrosse poll.
  • Julia Feiss leads Denver with eight goals so far this year.
  • The Seawolves are 2-5 all-time vs. Denver. The last time the two programs met was on Feb. 27, 2011 (Stony Brook 11, Denver 7).
Head Coach Joe Spallina
  • Seawolves' head coach Joe Spallina enters his seventh season with the program, owning a 105-20 overall record at Stony Brook.
  • The engineer of the nation's best turnaround in 2012 and winningest coach in program history after only three seasons, Spallina has guided the Seawolves to a 33-2 record in America East action and five consecutive America East titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.
  • Under Spallina, Stony Brook has produced 12 IWLCA All-Americans, seven Tewaaraton nominees, one Tewaaraton finalist, five conference championships, five NCAA Tournament second-round berths and an NCAA quarterfinal appearance.
Climbing the National Polls
  • The Seawolves have been ranked No. 2 nationally in the most recent set of all three major polls (Cascade/Inside Lacrosse, Nike/US Lacrosse, IWLCA Coaches' Poll).
  • Stony Brook received a first-place vote in a major national poll for the first time in program history heading into the season, earning one top vote in the IWLCA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
There's No Place Like Home
  • The Seawolves have been dominant at LaValle Stadium over the last six seasons, posting a 59-5 record at home (a .922 winning percentage).
  • Stony Brook went 11-0 at home in 2017 and has won 22 straight games at LaValle Stadium.

Stony Brook returns three 100-point scorers to its roster for the 2018 season: 2017 Season
  • Stony Brook is coming off its best season in program history, going 20-2 in 2017. The Seawolves fell at Maryland in the NCAA Quarterfinal round after winning its fifth-straight America East title on May 7, 2017.
  • The Seawolves won 20 games in a season for the first time in program history, topping Bryant and Northwestern in NCAA Tournament action.
Career Individual Records
Kylie Ohlmiller and Courtney Murphy are moving closer to breaking Division I career statistical records:
  • Kylie Ohlmiller currently ranks No. 11 all-time in career points (351), needing just 95 more points to break the NCAA record set by Maryland's Jen Adams (445).
  • Courtney Murphy currently ranks tied for No. 12 all-time in career goals (253), needing just 37 more goals to break the NCAA record set by Temple's Gail Cummings (289).
  • Kylie Ohlmiller currently ranks tied for No. 3 all-time in career assists (180), needing just 45 more assists to break the NCAA record set by Northwestern's Hannah Nielsen (224).
