No. 1 Stony Brook Travels to Delaware on Tuesday Night for Non-Conference Contest

NEWARK, DEL. – No. 1 Stony Brook women's lacrosse returns to action on Tuesday, March 13, traveling to Delaware for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference contest. No. 1 In The Polls
  • Stony Brook women's lacrosse has been ranked No. 1 nationally in all three major polls for the third-straight week.
  • After topping No. 20 Denver at LaValle Stadium in their 2018 home opener, the Seawolves earned the top spot in all three major polls for the first time in program history (IWLCA Coaches' Poll, Cascade/Inside Lacrosse, Nike/US Lacrosse), as announced on Monday, Feb. 26.
  • Stony Brook has won five-straight contests to begin the 2018 season, downing four nationally-ranked teams. The program first defeated No. 5 USC (14-10) on Feb. 16, then knocked off No. 23 Stanford (14-9) on Feb. 19 before returning to LaValle for its 2018 home opener. Stony Brook then outlasted No. 8 Northwestern and Michigan on the road this past weekend to remain unbeaten.
Scouting Delaware
  • Northwestern is 3-3 so far in 2018, topping Canisius, 16-9, its last time out on March 9.
  • Mia DeRuggiero leads the program with 17 total points (one goal, 16 assists), while Christine Long has tallied a team-high 13 goals so far in 2018.
  • The Seawolves are 2-0 all-time vs. Delaware. The last time the two programs met was on March 19, 2016 at LaValle Stadium (Stony Brook 8, Delaware 7).
Head Coach Joe Spallina
  • Seawolves' head coach Joe Spallina is currently seventh season with the program, owning a 108-20 overall record at Stony Brook.
  • The engineer of the nation's best turnaround in 2012 and winningest coach in program history after only three seasons, Spallina has guided the Seawolves to a 33-2 record in America East action and five consecutive America East titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.
  • Under Spallina, Stony Brook has produced 12 IWLCA All-Americans, seven Tewaaraton nominees, one Tewaaraton finalist, five conference championships, five NCAA Tournament second-round berths and an NCAA quarterfinal appearance.
Dominant Defense
  • The Seawolves currently have the nation's best defense, giving up just 7.00 goals per contest. 
Assists on Assists
  • Stony Brook has assisted on 53 of 76 goals so far this season, ranking No. 1 nationally in total helpers. Taryn Ohlmiller (18 assists) ranks No. 2 nationally in individual assists.
Limiting Miscues
  • The Seawolves have recorded just 58 turnovers in the first five contests of the season (11.6 turnovers per contest), which is the second-fewest in the nation so far this year. 
Long Island Three (#LI3)
Stony Brook returns three 100-point scorers to its roster for the 2018 season: Taryn Ohlmiller leads the way in scoring for the Seawolves so far this year with 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists), while Courtney Murphy has 29 points (19 goals, 10 assists) and Kylie Ohlmiller has tallied 27 points (18 goals, nine assists).

2017 Season
  • Stony Brook is coming off its best season in program history, going 20-2 in 2017. The Seawolves fell at Maryland in the NCAA Quarterfinal round after winning its fifth-straight America East title on May 7, 2017.
  • The Seawolves won 20 games in a season for the first time in program history, topping Bryant and Northwestern in NCAA Tournament action.
Career Individual Records
Kylie Ohlmiller and Courtney Murphy are moving closer to breaking Division I career statistical records:
  • Kylie Ohlmiller now has 367 career points, needing just 78 more points to break the NCAA career record set by Maryland's Jen Adams (445). The senior also has 186 career assists now, needing 39 more to break the NCAA record set by Northwestern's Hannah Nielsen (224). 
  • Courtney Murphy now has 265 career goals, needing just 25 more goals to break the NCAA record set by Temple's Gail Cummings (289).

  • Courtney Murphy (Shirley, N.Y.)Kylie Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.), and Taryn Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) have all been named to the 2018 Tewaaraton Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday, March 1. 
There's No Place Like Home
  • The Seawolves have been dominant at LaValle Stadium over the last six seasons, posting a 60-5 record at home (a .922 winning percentage).
  • Stony Brook went 11-0 at home in 2017 and has won 23-straight games at LaValle Stadium.
