STONY BROOK, N.Y. – No. 1 Stony Brook women's lacrosse returns to LaValle Stadium on Saturday night, hosting No. 10 Towson at 5:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
No. 1 In The Polls
- Stony Brook women's lacrosse has been ranked No. 1 nationally in all three major polls for the third-straight week.
- After topping No. 20 Denver at LaValle Stadium in their 2018 home opener, the Seawolves earned the top spot in all three major polls for the first time in program history (IWLCA Coaches' Poll, Cascade/Inside Lacrosse, Nike/US Lacrosse), as announced on Monday, Feb. 26.
- Stony Brook has won six-straight contests to begin the 2018 season, downing four nationally-ranked teams along the way. The Seawolves have outscored opponents 96-43 thus far.
Scouting No. 10 Towson
- Towson checks in at 5-1 so far this season, most recently topping Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, March 14. The Tigers have also beaten Penn State, Georgetown, Michigan and Coastal Carolina so far in 2017.
- Natalie Sulmonte leads the way offensively with a team-high 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists) through six contests, while Emily Gillingham has a team-high 18 goals.
- The Seawolves are 3-0 all-time vs. Towson. Stony Brook won the matchup between the two programs last year, 10-9, on Feb. 4, 2017 at Towson.
Head Coach Joe Spallina
- Seawolves' head coach Joe Spallina is currently seventh season with the program, owning a 109-20 overall record at Stony Brook.
- The engineer of the nation's best turnaround in 2012 and winningest coach in program history after only three seasons, Spallina has guided the Seawolves to a 33-2 record in America East action and five consecutive America East titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.
- Under Spallina, Stony Brook has produced 12 IWLCA All-Americans, seven Tewaaraton nominees, one Tewaaraton finalist, five conference championships, five NCAA Tournament second-round berths and an NCAA quarterfinal appearance.
There's No Place Like Home
- The Seawolves have been dominant at LaValle Stadium over the last seven seasons, posting a 60-5 record at home (a .922 winning percentage) since the start of the 2012 season.
- Stony Brook went 11-0 at home in 2017 and has won 23-straight games at LaValle Stadium.
Dominant Defense
- The Seawolves currently have the nation's best defense, giving up just 7.17 goals per contests.
Assists on Assists
- Stony Brook has assisted on 66 of 96 goals so far this season, ranking No. 1 nationally in total helpers. Taryn Ohlmiller (21 assists) ranks No. 1 nationally in individual assists.
Limiting Miscues
- The Seawolves have recorded just 11.67 turnovers per game in the first six contests of the season, which is the second-fewest in the nation.

Stony Brook returns three 100-point scorers to its roster for the 2018 season:
Taryn Ohlmiller leads the way in scoring for the Seawolves so far this year with 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists), while
Courtney Murphy has 29 points (19 goals, 10 assists) and
Kylie Ohlmiller has tallied 27 points (18 goals, nine assists).
2017 Season
- Stony Brook is coming off its best season in program history, going 20-2 in 2017. The Seawolves fell at Maryland in the NCAA Quarterfinal round after winning its fifth-straight America East title on May 7, 2017.
- The Seawolves won 20 games in a season for the first time in program history, topping Bryant and Northwestern in NCAA Tournament action.
Career Individual Records
Kylie Ohlmiller and
Courtney Murphy are moving closer to breaking Division I career statistical records:
- Kylie Ohlmiller now has 377 career points, needing just 68 more points to break the NCAA career record set by Maryland's Jen Adams (445). The senior also has 190 career assists now, needing 35 more to break the NCAA record set by Northwestern's Hannah Nielsen (224).
- Courtney Murphy now has 270 career goals, needing just 20 more goals to break the NCAA record set by Temple's Gail Cummings (289).

All-American Selections
- Seven Stony Brook women's lacrosse players were tabbed Inside Lacrosse Preseason Division I All-Americans, the publication announced heading into the 2018 season.
- Courtney Murphy, Kylie Ohlmiller, and Brooke Gubitosi, were selected to the First Team, Taryn Ohlmiller, was awarded Third Team honors, and Keri McCarthy, Mackenzie Burns, and Anna Tesoriero, were named to the Honorable Mention squad.
