STONY BROOK, N.Y. – No. 1 Stony Brook women's lacrosse returns to LaValle Stadium on Friday night, hosting Vermont in America East action at 7:00 p.m.

Scouting Vermont
  • Vermont is 4-6 so far in 2018, most recently dropping its conference opener vs. Binghamton last Saturday.
  • Elise Koehl leads the program offensively so far this year, recording a team-high 27 goals and 31 points.
  • The Seawolves are 11-5 all-time vs. Vermont. Stony Brook topped the Catamounts, 20-6, in the regular season meeting between the two programs last year in Burlington.
No. 1 In The Polls
  • Stony Brook women's lacrosse has been ranked No. 1 nationally in all three major polls for the fifth-straight week.
  • After topping No. 20 Denver at LaValle Stadium in their 2018 home opener, the Seawolves earned the top spot in all three major polls for the first time in program history (IWLCA Coaches' Poll, Cascade/Inside Lacrosse, Nike/US Lacrosse), as announced on Monday, Feb. 26.
  • Stony Brook has won eight-straight contests to begin the 2018 season, downing five nationally-ranked teams along the way. The Seawolves have outscored opponents 129-58 thus far.

Kylie Ohlmiller and Courtney Murphy are moving closer to breaking Division I career statistical records:
  • Courtney Murphy (Shirley, N.Y.) needs just 12 more goals away from breaking the NCAA Division I career record set by Temple's Gail Cummings (289).
  • Kylie Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) now has 395 career points, needing just 51 more to break the NCAA career record set by Maryland's Jen Adams (445). The senior also has 197 career assists now, needing 28 more to break the NCAA record set by Northwestern's Hannah Nielsen (224).
Head Coach Joe Spallina
  • Seawolves' head coach Joe Spallina is currently in his seventh season with the program, owning a 111-20 overall record at Stony Brook.
  • The engineer of the nation's best turnaround in 2012 and winningest coach in program history after only three seasons, Spallina has guided the Seawolves to a 33-2 record in America East action and five consecutive America East titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.
  • Under Spallina, Stony Brook has produced 12 IWLCA All-Americans, seven Tewaaraton nominees, one Tewaaraton finalist, five conference championships, five NCAA Tournament second-round berths and an NCAA quarterfinal appearance.
There's No Place Like Home
  • The Seawolves have been dominant at LaValle Stadium over the last seven seasons, posting a 61-5 record at home (a .924 winning percentage) since the start of the 2012 season.
  • Stony Brook went 11-0 at home in 2017 and has won 24-straight games at LaValle Stadium.
Dominant Defense
  • The Seawolves currently have the nation's best defense, giving up just 7.25 goals per contests.
  • Junior goalkeeper Anna Tesoriero owns a 7.22 goals-against average through eight games – which ranks No. 2 nationally and best in the America East.
Assists on Assists
  • Stony Brook has assisted on 85 of 129 goals so far this season, ranking No. 1 nationally in helpers per contest (10.63). Taryn Ohlmiller (25 assists) ranks No. 1 nationally in individual assists per contest (3.13).
Limiting Miscues
  • The Seawolves have recorded just 11.88 turnovers per game in the first eight contests of the season, which also ranks No. 1 nationally.
Offensive Firepower
  • Stony Brook has attempted 30 or more shots in each of its first eight games of the season, joining Dartmouth as the only two programs to record 30 shots in each game this season.

Stony Brook returns three 100-point scorers to its roster for the 2018 season: 2017 Season
  • Stony Brook is coming off its best season in program history, going 20-2 in 2017. The Seawolves fell at Maryland in the NCAA Quarterfinal round after winning its fifth-straight America East title on May 7, 2017.
  • The Seawolves won 20 games in a season for the first time in program history, topping Bryant and Northwestern in NCAA Tournament action.
