STONY BROOK, N.Y. – No. 1 Stony Brook women's lacrosse is back in action on Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium, hosting conference foe UMBC at 3 p.m.

  • After scoring five times at Hartford on Thursday, April 5, Courtney Murphy now holds the NCAA Division I career record for goals scored. Murphy now has 304 career goals in 80 games played.
  • Prior to Saturday's contest, the first 250 fans to enter LaValle Stadium will receive FREE Courtney Murphy t-shirt jerseys.
Kylie Ohlmiller Nears NCAA Points, Assists Records
  • Kylie Ohlmiller enters action with a team-best 103 points (60 goals, 43 assists). She is now just two total points away from breaking the NCAA Division I career record for total points scored, and just five assists away from the NCAA Division I career mark for helpers.
  • Ohlmiller tallied 21 total points over two contests at LaValle Stadium this past weekend, was named IL Women's Alpha Lacrosse Player of the Week, and made an appearance on ESPN Sports Center's Top 10 Plays.
No. 1 In The Polls
  • Stony Brook women's lacrosse has been ranked No. 1 nationally in all three major polls for the eighth-straight week.
  • After topping No. 20 Denver at LaValle Stadium in their 2018 home opener, the Seawolves earned the top spot in all three major polls for the first time in program history (IWLCA Coaches' Poll, Cascade/Inside Lacrosse, Nike/US Lacrosse), as announced on Monday, Feb. 26.
  • Stony Brook has now won 14-straight contests so far in 2018, downing seven nationally-ranked teams along the way. The Seawolves have outscored opponents 242-85 thus far.
Scouting UMBC
  • UMBC enters play at 10-5 overall, 2-3 in America East action. The Retrievers most recently topped Vermont, 16-14, on April 14 in conference play.
  • Sara Moeller leads the program in scoring so far in 2018, tallying 39 goals and 25 assists for 64 total points.
  • The Seawolves are 8-8 all-time vs. UMBC, going 8-0 vs. the Retrievers since Joe Spallina's arrival as Stony Brook's head coach in 2012.

  • Seawolves' head coach Joe Spallina is currently in his seventh season with the program, owning a 117-20 overall record at Stony Brook
  • The engineer of the nation's best turnaround in 2012 and winningest coach in program history after only three seasons, Spallina has guided the Seawolves to five consecutive America East titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.
  • Under Spallina, Stony Brook has produced 12 IWLCA All-Americans, seven Tewaaraton nominees, one Tewaaraton finalist, five conference championships, five NCAA Tournament second-round berths and an NCAA quarterfinal appearance.
Offensive Firepower
  • The Seawolves lead the nation in points per game (28.36) and average scoring margin (+11.21)
  • Three Seawolves rank in the Top 10 nationally in points per contest. Kylie Ohlmiller ranks No. 1 nationally (5.57 PPG), Courtney Murphy ranks No. 5 (5.07 PPG), and Taryn Ohlmiller ranks No. 10 (5.08 PPG)
Dominant Defense
  • The Seawolves currently have the nation's best defense, giving up just 6.07 goals per contests.
  • Junior goalkeeper Anna Tesoriero owns a 6.28 goals-against average through 14 games – which ranks No. 1 nationally and best in the America East.
Assists on Assists
  • Stony Brook has assisted on 155 of 242 goals so far this season, ranking No. 1 nationally in helpers per contest (11.07). 
Limiting Miscues
  • The Seawolves have recorded just 12.00 turnovers per game in the first 14 contests of the season, which also ranks No. 1 nationally.
Dangerous on the Draw
  • Keri McCarthy ranks No. 9 nationally, and No. 1 in the America East in draw controls per contest (7.00)
  • McCarthy tallied 16 draw controls – a new single-game program record – on March 30, 2018 vs. Vermont
  • McCarthy has 98 draw controls in 2018, needing just nine more to break her own single-season program record (106).
There's No Place Like Home
  • The Seawolves have been dominant at LaValle Stadium over the last seven seasons, posting a 65-5 record at home (a .927 winning percentage) since the start of the 2012 season.
  • Stony Brook went 11-0 at home in 2017, and has now won 28-straight games at LaValle Stadium.
Long Island Three (#LI3)
Stony Brook returns three 100-point scorers to its roster for the 2018 season: 2017 Season
  • Stony Brook is coming off its best season in program history, going 20-2 in 2017. The Seawolves fell at Maryland in the NCAA Quarterfinal round after winning its fifth-straight America East title on May 7, 2017.
  • The Seawolves won 20 games in a season for the first time in program history, topping Bryant and Northwestern in NCAA Tournament action.
