STONY BROOK, N.Y. – No. 1 Stony Brook women's lacrosse is set to host its final home contest of the 2018 regular season on Tuesday evening at LaValle Stadium, squaring off with No. 16 Penn State at 4 p.m.
No. 1 In The Polls
- Stony Brook women's lacrosse has been ranked No. 1 nationally in all three major polls for the ninth-straight week.
- After topping No. 20 Denver at LaValle Stadium in their 2018 home opener, the Seawolves earned the top spot in all three major polls for the first time in program history (IWLCA Coaches' Poll, Cascade/Inside Lacrosse, Nike/US Lacrosse), as announced on Monday, Feb. 26.
- Stony Brook has now won 15-straight contests so far in 2018, downing seven nationally-ranked teams along the way. The Seawolves have outscored opponents 264-92 thus far.
Kylie Ohlmiller Sets NCAA Career Points, Assists Records
- Senior Kylie Ohlmiller tallied eight points on two goals and six assists in the Seawolves' latest win on Saturday vs. UMBC, becoming the NCAA Division I career leader in points and assists.
- She broke the NCAA Division I career points record in the first half of play, surpassing the previous record set by Maryland's Jen Adams (445). She became the NCAA Division I career assist leader in the second half of play, breaking the previous record for helpers set by Northwestern's Hannah Nielsen (224). Ohlmiller now has 62 goals and 49 assists for 111 total points in 2018.
Courtney Murphy Shatters NCAA Career Goals Mark
- After scoring five times at Hartford on Thursday, April 5, Courtney Murphy broke the NCAA Division I career record for total goals scored.
- Courtney Murphy now has 312 career goals, breaking the previous record set by Temple's Gail Cummings (289). The redshirt senior is also the first player in NCAA Division I history to surpass the 300 career goals mark.
Scouting No. 16 Penn State
- Penn State enters play at 9-6 overall (3-2 Big Ten Conference). The Nittany Lions fell vs. Maryland (13-8) their last time out on Thursday, April 19.
- Katie O'Donnell leads the program in scoring with 56 total points (51 goals, 5 assists).
- Tuesday night's contest will mark the first time Stony Brook and Penn State have met.
Head Coach Joe Spallina
- Seawolves' head coach Joe Spallina is currently in his seventh season with the program, owning a 118-20 overall record at Stony Brook
- The engineer of the nation's best turnaround in 2012 and winningest coach in program history after only three seasons, Spallina has guided the Seawolves to five consecutive America East titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.
- Under Spallina, Stony Brook has produced 12 IWLCA All-Americans, seven Tewaaraton nominees, one Tewaaraton finalist, five conference championships, five NCAA Tournament second-round berths and an NCAA quarterfinal appearance.
Offensive Firepower
- The Seawolves lead the nation in points per game (28.93) and average scoring margin (+11.47)
- Three Seawolves rank in the Top 10 nationally in points per contest. Kylie Ohlmiller ranks No. 1 nationally (7.40 PPG), Courtney Murphy ranks No. 4 (5.93 PPG), and Taryn Ohlmiller ranks No. 12 (5.07 PPG)
Dominant Defense
- The Seawolves currently have the nation's best defense, giving up just 6.13 goals per contests.
- Junior goalkeeper Anna Tesoriero owns a 6.48 goals-against average through 15 games – which ranks No. 1 nationally and best in the America East.
Assists on Assists
- Stony Brook has assisted on 170 of 264 goals so far this season, ranking No. 1 nationally in helpers per contest (11.33).
Limiting Miscues
- The Seawolves have recorded just 12.00 turnovers per game in the first 15 contests of the season, which also ranks No. 1 nationally.
Dangerous on the Draw
- Keri McCarthy ranks No. 9 nationally, and No. 1 in the America East in draw controls per contest (7.00)
- McCarthy tallied 16 draw controls – a new single-game program record – on March 30, 2018 vs. Vermont
- McCarthy now needs just two more draw wins to break her own single-season program record (106).
There's No Place Like Home
- The Seawolves have been dominant at LaValle Stadium over the last seven seasons, posting a 66-5 record at home (a .929 winning percentage) since the start of the 2012 season.
- Stony Brook went 11-0 at home in 2017, and has now won 29-straight games at LaValle Stadium.

2017 Season
- Stony Brook is coming off its best season in program history, going 20-2 in 2017. The Seawolves fell at Maryland in the NCAA Quarterfinal round after winning its fifth-straight America East title on May 7, 2017.
- The Seawolves won 20 games in a season for the first time in program history, topping Bryant and Northwestern in NCAA Tournament action.

- Courtney Murphy, Kylie Ohlmiller, and Brooke Gubitosi, were selected to the First Team, Taryn Ohlmiller, was awarded Third Team honors, and Keri McCarthy, Mackenzie Burns, and Anna Tesoriero, were named to the Honorable Mention squad.
