Grande's Four Hits and Marino's Gem Lead Seawolves to Series Win at Maine

ORONO, Maine  – Sophomore SS Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) four hits and the trio of Stony Brook pitchers four-hit the host Maine as the Stony Brook baseball team defeated the Black Bears 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond and claim the America East Conference series.
 
The Seawolves (17-12, 6-3 AE) moved into first-place in the conference with the victory.
 
Sophomore RHP Greg Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) earned the win. He tossed 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on just three hits with six strikeouts. Senior LHP Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Ma.) added a scoreless inning, while senior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) held the Black Bears (9-21, 5-4 AE) scoreless over the final two innings of the game to earn the save.
 
Turning Point
The Seawolves set the tone early with three runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. Stony Brook got RBI singles from sophomore RF Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) and sophomore 1B Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) and a sac fly from senior 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.).

Notes/Stats
  • Stony Brook hit one double on combined on Sunday to bring the season total to 66 and remain among the NCAA leaders.
  • Sophomore RHP Greg Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) picked up with win, his second of the season and fourth of his career.
  • Senior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) earned the save, his eighth of the season and 11th of his career.
  • Pinto's eight saves tied the school record for saves in a season with former teammate Cam Stone (2014).
  • Pinto also moved into a tie for third-place on the career saves list with his 11.
  • Senior LHP Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Ma.) made his 70th career appearance on Sunday that moved him into a second-place tie on Stony Brook's career list.
  • Senior 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) singled in his first at bat on Sunday and has now hit safely in each of the last 10 games. He finished the series 8-10 from the plate.
  • Sophomore SS Nick Grande (Smithtowm, N.Y.) had four hits on Sunday and has 13 multi-hit games this season.
  • Freshman C John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) collected two hits on Sunday for his fourth multi-hit game of the season.
  • Sophomore RF Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) had a pair of hits on Sunday and now has 10 multi-hit games this season.
  • Wilson also drove in a pair of run for his team-best 26 RBI this season and his seventh multi-RBI game this season.
  • Junior LF Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) had two hits on Sunday for his fifth multi-hit game of the season.
 
On Deck?
Stony Brook will return to Long Island to host Iona on Tuesday and Central Connecticut on Wednesday. Both of those games will get underway at 3:30 p.m. at Joe Nathan Field.
