STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Freshman C
John Tuccillo's (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) single down the left field line in the bottom of the ninth inning scored sophomore RF
Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) from second with no outs and allowed the Stony Brook baseball team to walk-off with a 3-2 victory over visiting Hartford on Sunday at Joe Nathan Field.
Wilson doubled to lead off the inning for the Seawolves (28-21, 11-10 AE) before Tuccillo sent the first pitch from Hartford (20-28, 14-7 AE) reliever Seth Pinkerton into left field.
Senior RHP
Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) picked up his fourth win of the season in relief. He tossed 2.2 innings and did not allow a hit, despite giving up the tying run in the top of the ninth inning.
Turning Point
Despite giving up the tying run in the top of the ninth inning, Stony Brook didn't waste any time retaking the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Wilson led off with a double down the third base line before Tuccillo brought him around to score with no one out in the inning.
Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"There was no head hanging by the guys. In fact, they knew Johnny (Tuccillo) was coming up that inning and he was upset about not blocking that pitch and a bunch of the guys went up to him and said let it go and get ready to hit. Johnny did exactly that and came up with a big hit for us."
"This series win shows that we are more than capable to doing some good things next weekend up in Lowell and then into the tournament."
