STONY BROOK, N.Y. – No. 1 Stony Brook women's lacrosse continues 2018 NCAA Tournament play on Saturday afternoon, traveling to fourth-seeded Boston College for a quarterfinal round contest at Newton Campus Lacrosse Field.
 
NCAA Tournament History
  • Stony Brook is 6-5 in the program's NCAA Tournament history. 2018 marks the sixth NCAA Tournament appearance for the Seawolves.
  • Last year, Stony Brook advanced to the NCAA quarterfinal round – the furthest the program has gone in its history.
Scouting Boston College
  • The Eagles enter play at 20-1 in 2018, topping Princeton 16-10 in its opening NCAA Tournament game last week.
  • Boston College was ranked No. 4 nationally in the final IWLCA Coaches' Poll of the 2018 season on May 7, and received the No. 4 seed from the selection committee in the 2018 Division I NCAA Tournament.
  • Tewaaraton Award finalist Sam Apuzzo leads the way for the Eagles, scoring 80 goals to go along with 35 assists for 115 total points. Apuzzo also has 138 draw controls – which ranks No. 6 in the nation.
  • The Eagles have eight players with 20 or more points.
  • Stony Brook is 1-3 all-time vs. Boston College, though the Seawolves won the last matchup between the two programs on May 13, 2016 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (11-9).

  • Seawolves' head coach Joe Spallina is currently in his seventh season with the program, owning a 123-20 overall record at Stony Brook

Kylie Ohlmiller Sets NCAA Career Points, Assists Records
  • Senior Kylie Ohlmiller tallied eight points on two goals and six assists on Saturday, April 21 vs. UMBC, becoming the NCAA Division I career leader in points and assists.
  • She broke the NCAA Division I career points record in the first half of play, surpassing the previous record set by Maryland's Jen Adams (445). She became the NCAA Division I career assist leader in the second half of play, breaking the previous record for helpers set by Northwestern's Hannah Nielsen (224). 
  • Ohlmiller now has 86 goals and 66 assists for 152 total points in 2018 – which ranks No. 1 nationally.
  • Ohlmiller needs just 12 more points to tie her single-season NCAA record for points (164).
Courtney Murphy Shatters NCAA Career Goals Mark
  • After scoring five times at Hartford on Thursday, April 5, Courtney Murphy broke the NCAA Division I career record for total goals scored.
  • Courtney Murphy now has 339 career goals, breaking the previous record set by Temple's Gail Cummings (289). The redshirt senior is also the first player in NCAA Division I history to surpass the 300 career goals mark.
  • Murphy needs just seven more goals to tie her single-season NCAA record for scores (100).
Offensive Firepower
  • The Seawolves lead the nation in points per game (29.80) and average scoring margin (+11.40)
Dominant Defense
  • The Seawolves currently have the nation's best defense, giving up just 6.85 goals per contest.
  • Junior goalkeeper Anna Tesoriero owns a 7.21 goals-against average through 20 games – which ranks No. 1 nationally.
Assists on Assists
  • Stony Brook has assisted on 231 of 365 goals so far this season, ranking No. 1 nationally in helpers per contest (11.55). 
Limiting Miscues
  • The Seawolves have recorded just 11.95 turnovers per game in the first 20 contests of the season, which also ranks No. 1 nationally.
Dangerous on the Draw
  • Keri McCarthy ranks No. 10 nationally, and No. 1 in the America East in draw controls per contest (6.65)
  • McCarthy tallied 16 draw controls – a new single-game program record – on March 30, 2018 vs. Vermont
  • The junior broke the single-season program record for draw wins in the Seawolves' latest win vs. Penn State. She now has 133 draw wins in 2018, a number that surpassed her own record of 106 draw wins in 2017.
There's No Place Like Home
  • The Seawolves have been dominant at LaValle Stadium over the last seven seasons, posting a 70-5 record at home (a .932 winning percentage) since the start of the 2012 season.
  • Stony Brook went 11-0 at home in 2017, and has now won 33-straight games at LaValle Stadium.

Stony Brook returns three 100-point scorers to its roster for the 2018 season: 2017 Season
  • Stony Brook is coming off its best season in program history, going 20-2 in 2017. The Seawolves fell at Maryland in the NCAA Quarterfinal round after winning its fifth-straight America East title on May 7, 2017.
  • The Seawolves won 20 games in a season for the first time in program history, topping Bryant and Northwestern in NCAA Tournament action.
