Home Runs by Resk and Honeyman Lift Seawolves over Bryant

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Both junior LF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) and senior 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) had two-run home runs on Sunday afternoon to lead the Stony Brook baseball team to a 5-3 victory over visiting Bryant at Joe Nathan Field.
 
Honeyman's homer, in the bottom of the seventh gave the Seawolves (26-20) a 3-2 lead, while Resk's shot broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom the eighth inning.
 
Senior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) picked up the victory with 4.0 innings of work in relief of junior starter Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.). Pinto allowed four hits and struck out four, while Clarke gave up three hits with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings.
 
Turning Point
With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, junior LF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) sent a 1-2 pitch well over the left field fence that also scored junior DH Cristian Montes (Pacoima, Calif.) and give Stony Brook a 5-3 lead.

"This was a terrific win. The guys completed at a high level today with a lot of great things topped off by big home runs by (Bobby) Honeyman and Dylan Resk. Overall, it was a really good weekend and we will get ready for senior day and Hartford next weekend."

  • Sophomore SS Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) swiped one base on Sunday for his 28th stolen base of the season to move him within eight of the single season record of 36 held by Travis Jankowski and just two away from second-place on the list.
  • Grande also had a pair of hits on Sunday for his 19th multi-hit game of the season.
  • Junior LF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) blasted his second home run of the season and 17th if his career in the eighth inning on Sunday.
  • Resk also collected two hits for his fifth multi-hit game of the season. He drove in three runs for his seventh multi-RBI game of the campaign.
  • Senior 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) hit his second home run of the season in the seventh inning. It was the fourth of his career.
  • Honeyman recorded two hits on Sunday for his team-leading 20th multi-hit game of the season.
  • Senior CF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) had two hits on Sunday and now has nine multi-hit games this season.
  • Junior DH Cristian Montes (Pacoima, Calif.) collected a pair of his on Sunday for his sixth multi-hit game of the season.
  • Senior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) picked up his third win of the season in relief and now has 11 career victories.
  • Stony Brook had one double on Sunday and has now hit 99 this season to remain among the NCAA leaders.
  • Head coach Matt Senk picked up career win number 797 on Sunday and is now just three wins away from the 800 win milestone.

Stony Brook returns to America East Conference play this coming weekend when Hartford visits Joe Nathan Field for a three-game series. The Seawolves' eighth seniors will be honored prior to Saturday's Noon doubleheader.
