Box Score STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Despite a furious late push for an equalizer, the Stony Brook women's soccer team saw its winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to UMass Lowell at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
Junior
Alyssa Francese (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored her tenth goal of the season in the 80
th minute but Stony Brook was only able to pull within one in the late stages of the match.
BISCHOF'S REACTION
"Full credit to UMass Lowell. We are a team that lives by our offense and they were able to hold us to just eight shots and two on goal. There's a lot we have to improve on for Thursday, so we'll need to practice hard as we get ready for a good Albany team."
SCORING SUMMARY
- 8th minute – UMass Lowell 1, Stony Brook 0 – Emily Nelson started the scoring for the River Hawks as a good connection of passes gave her a 1-on-1 with junior Sofia Manner (Helsinki, Finland) and she put it past the keeper.
- 62nd minute – UMass Lowell 2, Stony Brook 0 – Dunja Mostarac doubled the advantage with a header from the top of the box that went high over Manner and into the top corner.
- 81st minute – UMass Lowell 2, Stony Brook 1 – Francese cut the lead in half after a great individual effort to move to the middle of the field. She fed junior Fanny Götesson (Varnamo, Sweden) wide and then got the ball back to her head to put it into the net.
STATS AND NOTES
- Francese now sits at a career-high 10 goals this season, with a tally in four straight contests.
- She is the first player since Larissa Nysch in 2013 to score double-digit goals.
- Götesson now sits at five assists this season and 17 for her career. She has dished one in four of her last six contests.
- Manner made three saves in net.
