RICHMOND, Va. -- Stony Brook football redshirt junior QB
Tyquell Fields (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) and redshirt freshman RB
Ty Son Lawton (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) have earned the CAA Football's Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Â
Fields accounted for 332 yards of total offense and three touchdowns as the Seawolves (5-3, 2-2 CAA Football) rallied past No. 5 Villanova, 36-35, on Saturday. He completed 21-of-37 passes for a career-high 320 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a pair of scores. Fields helped Stony Brook tally 16 points in the final 4:45, throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to freshman WR
Shawn Harris Jr. (Mt. Vernon, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac), scoring on a one-yard run and then driving the Seawolves 59 yards in 21 seconds to set up a game-winning field goal as time expired.
Â
Lawton rushed for a team-high 121 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries in the victory on Saturday. It was the third consecutive 100-yard effort for Lawton and came against a Villanova defense that was allowing just 99.4 ypg on the ground. He had a 10-yard Touchdown run in the third quarter and broke loose for a key 47-yard run late in the fourth quarter that set up another Stony Brook touchdown.
The honor is the second for Fields this season, while Lawton nabbed his first award. Fields also garnered the honor following Stony Brook's victory at Rhode Island. Redshirt junior P
Michell Wright (Sydney, Australia)Â was named the CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week after the Bryant game earlier this season.
Stony will travel to Virginia on Saturday to face Richmond at 3 p.m. in Robins Stadium. Don't miss your chance to catch the Seawolves in action when they return to LaValle Stadium on Nov. 9 to face Towson at 2 p.m. (
