BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's cross country team ran to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday morning.

The Seawolves were powered by two big performances from
Cameron Avery (Christchurch, New Zealand) and
Vann Moffett (Niantic, Conn.) who placed within the top-20 individually to earn All-Region honors.
Â
The team tallied 176 points overall to notch its standing at fifth. Harvard (59) and Syracuse (86) were the top to squads in the region and earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championship.

Ronan Reaction
"Today we fell short of the goal we had going in to the regional championships. We believed we had the ability if we performed up to our fitness level to be in the top three and maybe earn a spot on the start line at the national championship next week. It was not to be, we took fifth and individually Cameron just missed out on an individual qualifying spot right at the end of the race. I'm proud of the effort the guys put out there today, considering all the drama related to the weather and course change. They stayed focused on the race and gave a 100 percent on the day. The result will sting for a while, particularly for Cameron, but in the long run we will get better from the experience."
