Stony Brook Head Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Boals has resigned to become the new head men's basketball coach at Ohio University.
 
When I hired Jeff three years ago, I believed that Stony Brook was getting an outstanding coach and leader who would position our men's basketball program for long term success. With success comes opportunity, and for Jeff the chance to return to his alma mater as head coach was one that he could not pass up. I wish him, Katie, Sydney and Chase all the best as they move to Ohio.

My focus is on continuing our upward trajectory and maintaining a program that competes annually for conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. I'm excited about the group of young men that we have and those who are committed to come to Stony Brook. Coming off of a 24-win regular season, our team is poised to take the next step.

We're looking forward to finding out later today about our opportunity to compete in the postseason. I know that our team will be focused and ready to win. Geno Ford will serve as interim head coach, and I have every confidence in his ability to guide us at this time.

The search for our next head coach will begin immediately. In the meantime, I look forward to supporting our team as we prepare to win a postseason championship.
