Avery, Moffett Notch Top-10 Finishes to Lead Stony Brook to Third Place in Boston

Results

BOSTON – The Stony Brook men's cross country team impressed at its first big test of the season, taking third overall (129 points) as a team out of 21 at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday afternoon. The Seawolves topped nationally-ranked squads in Washington and Arkansas and finished in front of conference rivals UAlbany, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Ronan Reaction
"The guys competed very well against a quality field. We have been talking a lot about how we need to handle the middle of our races and about keeping ourselves in contention for a successful performance particularly against this type of competition. We did that today, but it is in early season and we need to do it on a consistent basis throughout the remainder of the season. The guys held their own against some big-time programs. The trio of Cameron (Avery), Vann (Moffett) and Rob (Becker) gave a super effort up front with Greg (Mangarelli) and Kyle (Kelly) giving good support with grinding runs over the last 2K of the race to complete our team score. This without a doubt is the best early season performance by our men ever, but we can't get ahead of ourselves, there's plenty of work to be done before the championship season starts in November."
