BOSTON — After setting the school record in the 500-meter dash on Friday night at the Terrier Classic,
Amanda Stead was named America East Female Track Performer of the Week. The league announced the award on Tuesday afternoon.
Stead's 1:13.72 time in the 500 topped the previous school record of 1:14.41, held by Corinne Leak since 2004.
In what was her first 500-meter race of the season, the junior claimed the fastest 500 time in the conference of the year. The time also ranks 11th in the nation.
"I'm really happy to be named performer of the week," Stead said. "I'm excited to see how these next few weeks pan out before the America East Championship."
Stead is off to a fast start in 2020. The Miller Place, N.Y. native placed first in the 400-meter dash at the Robert Elkin Invitational and had a strong performance at the Penn 8-Team Select, already earning several ECAC qualifiers.
Stead and the Seawolves are back in action at the Metropolitan Championships on Jan. 30-31 in Staten Island, N.Y.
