STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook men's basketball team's scheduled season opener against Bryant on Wednesday has been canceled.
The decision stems from a positive COVID test involving someone who had been scheduled to work the game, but who is not directly affiliated with either team.
Tier 1 individuals, which include game participants, undergo testing three times a week.
Stony Brook's women's basketball season opener against Fordham remains on track to be played on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Island Federal Arena.
The men's basketball team is now eyeing Saturday against Fairfield at Island Federal Arena at 2 p.m. for its season opener.
Coach
Geno Ford said he fully expects the schedule to be fluid this season. For example, Wednesday's now-scrapped Bryant game had been a replacement for an originally scheduled game at Marist.
"It's going on all over the country," Ford said about cancellations. "We will stay focused on what we can control and are optimistic and excited to play Saturday against a good Fairfield team."
