Coach Chuck Priore reviews the early signing day additions with Jonny Wincott.
STONY BROOK, N.Y. — A successful Early Signing Day is in the books for the Stony Brook football team.
And head coach
Chuck Priore is ecstatic about the eight young men he has added to the squad.
"They certainly represent what we should be all about — getting great people, who are good students in the classroom,  who come from backgrounds that we are excited about and who will add to our family," Priore said.
In a different year, Priore noted the signing class would have comprised 12 to 14 student-athletes. But Stony Brook — like programs across the nation — will have more returnees than usual because the NCAA is not charging eligibility for football during the 2020-21 academic year.
Here's a review of the newest additions to the Seawolves family:
WR Hunter Hayek: A graduate transfer from Rutgers, where he was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Hayek started every game during his freshman season. He appeared in 27 games from 2017 through '19, recording 11 catches for 79 yards, including a career-long 27-yard catch at Michigan as a freshman. Hayek is earning a bachelor's degree in human resources with a minor in labor studies from Rutgers this month. A Wayne Hills (N.J.) High School product, Hayek played alongside twin brother Tyler at receiver for Rutgers. Their younger brother Jaaron is a receiver at Villanova.
OL Ludvig Burell: A native of Täby, Sweden, Burell represented the Swedish national team and advanced to the U19 national championship. He is the fourth-ranked offensive lineman in the Europe 2021 class. Burell did not allow a sack in three seasons of competition.
QBÂ Daron Bryden:Â At Bloomfield High School, Bryden led the state of Connecticut with 3,344 passing yards and 42 touchdowns thrown as a junior. He also had a 138.4 QBR rating and two rushing TDs. He owns the program's career records with 7,326 passing yards and 98 passing TDs and is a two-time all-state selection. Bryden is fluent in sign language to communicate with his parents, Rita and Craig.
CB Calvin Harrison: A Maryland native and Meade Senior High School product, Harrison earned first-team all-county recognition as a sophomore and junior and is a four-year letterwinner and three-year captain.
OG Zach Hoerter: The William Floyd High School product is staying home to defend the Island. A third-team all-state and second-team all-county selection, Hoerter surrendered no sacks and had 69 pancakes as a junior for the two-time undefeated Suffolk County champs.
RB Ali Lee Jr.: Lee earned USA Today first-team all-state and Greater Middlesex Conference Offensive Player of Year honors as a junior and senior with Woodbridge High School in New Jersey. He rushed 296 times for 1,873 yards, had 2,348 all-purpose yards and scored 26 touchdowns as a junior as his team reached the sectional final for first time in 22 years, won its first division title in 28 years and posted a team-record 10 wins. Lee set program records for career (3,918) and single-season (1,873) rushing yards, career (44) and single-season (21) rushing touchdowns, career (53) and single-season (26) touchdowns, and single-season all-purpose yards (2,348). Versatile, he also served as the punter.
CB Ramal West: Another Maryland native, West's family is no stranger to the Seawolves. Cousin Shania "Shorty" Johnson set the Stony Brook women's basketball program records for career and single-season three-pointers as well as single-season assists while playing for the Seawolves in 2017-18 and 2018-19. An all-county honoree, West tallied seven touchdowns, five interceptions, one forced fumble and 67 tackles as a junior.
DLÂ Anthony Williams:Â Williams earned second-team all-conference honors with Timber Creek High School in New Jersey this past season. He recorded 78 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and six sacks during his career.
