CLEMSON, S.C. — Despite putting 10 runners on base, the Stony Brook baseball team could not put one across on Friday night in its series opener.
Clemson plated a run in the bottom of the first and that was all it would need in a 2-0 victory over the Seawolves in the first of three in the Palmetto State.
"We never stopped competing and had chances to score, but to no avail," head coach matt Senk said.
The Tigers loaded the bases in the first but Stony Brook starter
Jared Milch induced a double-play ball to third that scored a run. That was all Clemson would get in the opening frame.
"Individually, nobody competed harder than starting pitcher
Jared Milch," Senk added. "That will be needed in the two remaining games in this series to give us the best chance to earn wins."
Clemson added one in the second, an RBI triple off the bat of Sam Hall that caromed off the center-field wall.
The weekend's visitors loaded the bases three times in the game, including in each of the final two innings, but were unable to scrape a run across.
