SMITHTOWN, N.Y. — Women's lacrosse head coach
Joe Spallina officially was introduced to the media on Tuesday as part of the newest class of the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
Spallina had been selected in January as one of 20 prominent Suffolk County sports figures to be honored.
The official induction ceremony will take place on May 26 at Watermill Caterers in Smithtown.
After taking over the Stony Brook women's lacrosse program in 2012, Spallina immediately turned the Seawolves into a powerhouse, including a No. 1 national ranking in 2018.
He has produced numerous All-Americans and Tewaaraton nominees and has led Stony Brook to seven straight America East titles and NCAA appearances.
As a women's lacrosse head coach, Spallina has more than 200 career wins between his time at Stony Brook and his alma mater, Adelphi. With the Panthers, he led the team to three straight Division II national championships.
He also coached at the professional level with the Long Island Lizards and currently serves as the Major League Lacrosse team's general manager.
The No. 3 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team is 2-0 to start out the 2020 season, including a win at the Carrier Dome over Syracuse to open the season. The Seawolves travel to Florida for a top-10 matchup with the eighth-ranked Gators this Saturday.
