Extra Special: Chris Hamilton Homer Caps Five-Run 11th as Baseball tops Southeastern La.

HAMMOMD, La. — Brad Hipsley's grand slam looked like the defining moment of the Stony Brook baseball team's game against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.

In the end, extra innings became required, but the Seawolves nonetheless prevailed.

Stony Brook erupted for five runs in the 11th inning, capped by Chris Hamilton's two-run homer, to defeat the host Lions, 11-6.

The Seawolves (2-7) snapped a five-game skid.

Southeastern Louisiana forced extra innings with a pair of runs in the ninth against Brandon Bonanno, who had been bidding for a six-out save.

Hipsley had staked Stony Brook to a 6-3 lead with his first collegiate homer — a sixth-inning grand slam.

Brandon Lashley earned his first collegiate win with two scoreless relief innings.

"I was super-excited to help out my team and to be the one that coach went to in that spot," Lashley said. "I'm thrilled I got my first collegiate win. But without every guy on the team, this win doesn't happen. Our defense played outstanding, especially with runners in scoring position. But, honestly, the coolest part to me was being in the dugout in the top of the 11th when we rallied with the bats. The hype and excitement, I've never experienced anything like that."

Evan Giordano continued his hot start to the season, recording two hits in five at-bats to extend his season-opening hitting streak to nine games.

"It's great to see the bats come alive, led by Brad Hipsley's huge grand slam and Chris Hamilton's clutch two-run homer," coach Matt Senk said. "Sam Turcotte gave us another solid start, followed by Adam Erickson, Brandon Bonanno and then Brandon Lashley getting the job done in extra innings. Overall, this was a terrific team effort."
