Football Alumnus Sam Kamara to Join Chicago Bears 53-Man Roster

CHICAGO – Stony Brook University alumnus Sam Kamara has been activated from the Chicago Bears' practice squad and is set to join their 53-man roster ahead of the team's Week 6 matchup with the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.
 
"We are excited and proud of Sam for the opportunity to join the Bears' 53-man roster. Throughout his career at Stony Brook, Sam was an impact player on the field and was a true leader off the field. We wish him luck moving forward in the NFL," said head coach Chuck Priore.
 
Kamara has impressed in Chicago after signing as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. Kamara played in all three preseason games and recorded six tackles (four solo, two assists), three quarterback hits, and a sack. Kamara notched his first preseason sack versus the Buffalo Bills on August 21. He closed out the preseason slate by tallying four tackles (three solo, one assist) against the Tennessee Titans on August 28.
 
Following a strong showing in preseason, Kamara was re-signed to the Bears' practice squad where he has spent time working as an outside linebacker. Kamara joins a Bears team that is (3-2) this season and has won each of their last two games.
 
Kamara had a standout four-year career at Stony Brook from 2016-20. During his time on Long Island, he totaled 110 tackles (52 solo, 58 assists), 24.0 tackles for loss, and 15.0 sacks. In 2018, he was named to the All-CAA Second Team after collecting 42 tackles (22 solo, 20 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, and 9.0 sacks. He concluded his career with the Seawolves in 2020 by being tabbed to the All-CAA First Team after recording 12 tackles (six solo, six assists), 3.0 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks in three games.
 
The Carteret, N.J. native was a driving force behind back-to-back FCS Playoff appearances in 2017 and 2018. Kamara and the Seawolves earned a 59-29 win over Lehigh in the first round of the 2017 FCS Playoffs before they fell to No. 1 James Madison in the second round. The following year, Stony Brook went head-to-head with No. 20 Southeast Missouri in the first round of the FCS Playoffs.
 
Kamara is the second Stony Brook football alumnus to make an NFL 53-man roster this season. Chris Cooper made the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 53-man roster ahead of Week 1. Kamara and the Bears go head-to-head with the Packers on Sunday, October 17, at 1 p.m., tune in on FOX.
