STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook University softball family has gained three new members as head coach
Megan T. Bryant has announced the signings of Naiah Ackerman, Hailey Guerrero, and Chloe Montalvo. The trio all signed their National Letter of Intent (NLI) and are set to join the Seawolves' roster for the 2023 season.
"We are thrilled to officially welcome Naiah, Hailey, and Chloe and their families to our Seawolves family and our softball program. The recruiting process with this class was really enjoyable. All three young women are great fits for Stony Brook academically, athletically, and personally. They all have engaging personalities and possess great passion for the game, have high softball IQs, and the skill sets necessary to be successful at this level. All three can swing it and bring defensive versatility to our team.
Chloe is a catcher/corner with tremendous power and is a natural leader on the field. Hailey is a true utility player, who can play a variety of positions well and knows how to compete at the plate. Naiah is a slick-fielding infielder who loves to swing it and has a knack for driving in runs," said coach Bryant as she discussed the additions of Ackerman, Guerrero, and Montalvo.

Ackerman has had a successful high school career at Chaparral, where she has been on the varsity softball team for the past four years. While at Chaparral, she has recorded a career batting average of .476 and as a senior she hit .500 and notched a fielding percentage of .905. Ackerman holds the school records for most career hits, most hits in a single-season, and highest career batting average.
The infielder collected a plethora of honors in high school, which included All-League Honorable Mention (2018), All-League Second Team (2019), All-League First Team (2020, 2021), All-State Honorable Mention (2020), Continental Player of the Year (2021), and Colorado All-State Second Team at shortstop (2021). Additionally, she helped lead her team to State, which marked the team's first appearance in seven years.
She is the daughter of Debbie and Dusty, and has two brothers, Alec and Nolan. Athletics runs deep in her family as her father Dusty played football at Drake University, her brother Alec plays baseball at Bellevue University, her brother Nolan plays baseball at the College of San Mateo, and her uncle Timmy shot javelin at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Ackerman plays club softball with the Colorado Styxx.
Hailey Guerrero | Utility | Bellmore, N.Y.
Guerrero remains on Long Island and will join the Seawolves after she wraps up her high school career at Mepham. The Bellmore native concluded her junior year by hitting .345 with four home runs and earned the Nassau County Coaches Association All-County Player Award. The two-year team captain, helped lead Mepham to a High School Class A Nassau/Suffolk County Championship in 2021.
In the classroom, Guerrero was a part of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honors Society. In addition to playing softball, she was a member of the varsity basketball team and was ranked as one of the top 100 high school girls' basketball players on Long Island in 2021.
She is the daughter of Lisa and Alfonso, and has three siblings, Rianna, Armando, and Alfonso. Guerrero plays club softball with the Long Island Honeychucks. She intends to major in Education at Stony Brook.
Chloe Montalvo | Catcher | Matawan, N.J.
Montalvo will join the Seawolves after she concludes her career at Matawan High School. The New Jersey native has played four years of varsity softball and has served as a team captain for one season. Montalvo had a stellar junior season as she hit .463 with 37 hits, three home runs, and 18 RBI.
She collected a number of honors during her junior year, which included All-Shore Third Team (2021), #57 nationally ranked catcher in the class of 2022, and she was tabbed the #147 nationally ranked player in the class of 2022. Montalvo helped her team defeat a major rival for the first time in 32 years as a junior and the team was ranked as the fourth and 15
th high school softball team according to nj.com. She plays club softball for NJ Intensity.
Montalvo is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and Future Medical Leaders of America. She is the daughter of Daphne and David, and has a brother named Austen Planes. Her brother Austen played Basketball at Misericordia University. Montalvo intends to major in biochemistry upon her arrival on Long Island.
