BOSTON — For the third time in seven seasons, a Seawolves freshmen is declared the America East's best.
Jonas Bickus earned Men's Soccer's third America East Rookie of the Year honor since 2015, the league announced on Monday afternoon. The Lithuanian-born freshman tied for the team lead in goals (four) and starts (15) during his inaugural campaign with the Seawolves.
The award, voted on by the league's nine head coaches, has been recently dominated by the Seawolves. Christian Miesch earned the honor in 2018, while Serge Gamwanya was named the league's best freshman in 2015.
Bickus was a key part of the Stony Brook offense, immediately announcing his presence with a game-winner in the season opener against LIU. He also scored the deciding tally in Newark against NJIT, aiding the Seawolves to a 2-1 victory.
With his offensive help, Stony Brook finished with the most wins (8) since the 2018 campaign and the most wins at LaValle Stadium (5) since the 2011 season.
