STONY BROOK, N.Y. — For a second straight year, the Stony Brook baseball team's season ended due to reasons beyond its control.

The Seawolves' championship-round game against NJIT — which had been suspended due to rain in the bottom of the third inning on Saturday with Stony Brook leading 1-0 and the bases loaded — has been canceled due to continued inclement weather.

The Highlanders, who had been unbeaten thus far in the America East Championship, will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Stony Brook, the regular-season champion, was coming out of the losers' bracket after suffering an opening-game loss to Maine and needed a win in the suspended game as well as an additional win on Sunday against NJIT to earn the bid.
