STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The postseason honors continue to roll in for Stony Brook University redshirt freshman linebacker
Tyler King as he was tabbed a Phil Steele FCS Freshman First Team All-American. This latest accolade marks his second All-American honor as he was also named a HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-American in December.
Additionally, a total of seven Seawolves claimed Phil Steele All-CAA recognition as announced by the publication. On the offensive side of the ball,
Ty Son Lawton (First Team),
Kyle Nunez (Second Team),
Shawn Harris Jr. (Third Team), and
Anthony Catapano (Fourth Team) were recognized by the publication.
Defensively, King (Third Team) and
Carthell Flowers (Third Team) were honored for their standout play in the 2021 season. On special teams,
Mitchell Wright (Third Team) took home All-CAA honors for the Seawolves.
King is the first Seawolf to claim Phil Steele Freshman All-American honors since Lawton was named a Phil Steele Freshman Fourth Team All-American following the 2019 season.
The linebacker recorded 95 tackles (50 solo, 45 assists), 12.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble in 11 games. King led all CAA rookies in total tackles and ranked sixth overall. His 50 solo tackles were the second-most in the conference this season.
King concluded a standout 2021 season and was rewarded by being named to the All-CAA Second Team. In addition to earning All-Conference honors, King was one of 23 finalists for the 2021 Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award, which was presented to the national FCS freshman player of the year.
The Wexford, Pa. native took home the CAA Rookie of the Week award twice in 2021. He was first named the conference Rookie of the Week on September 20, and then claimed the honor on November 8.
