THE MATCHUP: The Stony Brook University women's basketball team (11-2, 2-1 America East) returns to Island Federal Arena to face-off against Vermont (7-6, 1-1 America East) on Wednesday, January 12, at 7 p.m. The game is set to air on ESPN+ with Sam Neidermann (play-by-play) and Rob Pavinelli (analyst) on the call.

SERIES HISTORY: This matchup between the Seawolves and Catamounts marks the 41st time these two teams will go head-to-head. Stony Brook currently holds a 21-19 record against Vermont. The first time these two teams saw each other was on January 24, 2002, where the Seawolves fell to the Catamounts, 71-59, up north in Burlington, Vt. The last time these two teams faced off was on February 19, 2020, in Burlington where Stony Brook pulled ahead of Vermont, 72-68.

LAST TIME OUT: Stony Brook defeated Maine, 63-44, on Sunday, January 9, to secure its first road win in conference play. Annie Warren led the scoring for the Seawolves finishing with 15 points, followed closely by graduate forwards India Pagan and Leighah-Amori Wool who brought in 13 points and 12 points, respectively. The Seawolves dominated down low converting almost half of the team's points from within the paint (30).

STRONG ISLAND BASKETBALL: Stony Brook did not let up on defense against Maine, limiting the Black Bears to only 44 points. It was the fifth time this season Stony Brook held an opponent under 50 points. The 44 points allowed are tied for the second-fewest the Seawolves allowed in a game this season (held Rutgers to 44 points on Nov. 16). Stony Brook has held each of its last two opponents to under 50 points (limited Hartford to a season-low 39 points on Jan. 2). The Seawolves have outrebounded their opponents in 10 games this season and have posted a 10-0 record in those contests. Stony Brook forced 18 turnovers and held Maine to 14 points in the paint, the lowest amount the Black Bears have scored in the paint all season.

SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS: The Catamounts took down the Wildcats, 60-37, on Wednesday, January 5, in Durham, N.H. With the win, Vermont improved to 7-6, 1-1 America East on the season. Vermont's scoring offense is led by graduate guard Josie Larkins. Larkins leads the scoring for the Catamounts averaging 12.4 points over 13 starts. Larkins currently sits in first in the America East and within the top 20 in the NCAA ranks for three-point percentage (44.7%) this season. Head coach Alisa Kresge is in her fourth year at the helm of Vermont. Kresge led the Catamounts to their best finish in the America East since 2009-10 while serving as interim head coach during the 2018-19 campaign. The 11 wins in 2018-19 were the most by any Vermont coach in their debut season since 2003-04.
