STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Seawolves came out victorious in the first Empire Clash as of the season as they defeated in-state SUNY rival UAlbany, 58-47, on Saturday afternoon at Island Federal Arena. Stony Brook improves to 15-2, 6-1 America East on the season as it was led by three student-athletes scoring in double figures.
With the win, the Seawolves extend their winning streak to six games in a row. The six-game winning streak is Stony Brook's second-longest streak of the season (won seven-straight games to start the season from Nov. 9-28). The Seawolves are now winners of eight out of their last nine games.
Stony Brook is one of 18 teams in the nation with 15 wins on the season. The Seawolves' 15 wins are the most in the America East. The Seawolves moved into sole possession of first-place in the America East following today's result.
Senior guard
Anastasia Warren led the Seawolves with a team-high 12 points. Warren was followed by graduate forward
India Pagan and junior guard
Gigi Gonzalez. Both Pagan and Gonzalez each tallied 10 points apiece.
The Seawolves' defense limited the Great Danes to 47 points on 33.9 percent shooting from the field, 14.3 percent shooting from three, and forced 21 turnovers. The Seawolves scored 25 points off turnovers as a result of their tenacious defensive effort.
STATS AND NOTES
- Stony Brook extended its winning streak against UAlbany to seven games in a row. The seven-straight wins over the Great Danes is the longest winning streak against their in-state rival in history.
- Warren scored a team-high 12 points, which marked her 10th game of the season and fifth consecutive contest scoring in double-digits. She shot 4-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. With her three made three-pointers, Warren is now six three-pointers away from tying Dani Klupenger for seventh all-time.
- Coming off a season-high 21-points against fellow SUNY rival Binghamton, Pagan scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
- Graduate forward McKenzie Bushee scored eight points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field, pulled down four rebounds, and blocked two shots in 17 minutes.
- Gonzalez recorded 10 points, three assists, and three steals, while graduate forward Leighah-Amori Wool scored nine points, grabbed four rebounds, and handed out a season-high tying four assists.
- Senior guard Earlette Scott dished out a season-high-tying five assists, while scoring four points and notching four steals.
- After tying their season-high in steals with 11 against Binghamton on Wednesday, the Seawolves set a new season-high in today's win as they tallied 12.
- All eight Seawolves who saw action scored in the game.
- The Seawolves are now a perfect 12-0 when they lead at the half and 9-0 at Island Federal Arena this season.
- Like they have done all season, Stony Brook held its opponent to one of their lowest scoring efforts of the year. The Great Danes' 47 points are the third-fewest points they have scored all season, and the least they have scored against a conference opponent thus far.

Stony Brook is back on the court on Wednesday, January 26, when it travels to Burlington to take on Vermont at 6 p.m. It marks the second meeting of the year between the Seawolves and Catamounts. Stony Brook defeated Vermont, 65-59, in the first meeting of the season on January 12.
