Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Falls in CAA Road Opener at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Stony Brook University volleyball team clashed against William & Mary University today, in their first ever road-matchup in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Seawolves ultimately fell to the Tribe, 25-21, 25-16, 25-21.

The first set began as a back and forth thriller that led to a tied match at 16-16. But, the offensive fire-power for the Tribe would awaken and the team from Williamsburg. Va. ran away with the set following an 8-2 run down the stretch.

After a second set defeat, the Seawolves came out explosive and hungry to keep the match alive. The squad jumped out to a 11-5  lead after a slam from freshman Kali Moore and forced a Tribe timeout. Similarly to set one, William & Mary would go on another run to tie things up at 16-16 and pull away late to seal the win.

Leading the attack for Stony Brook was Moore, as the Brooklyn native led all players with 15 kills on 28 total attempts. Also, junior Abby Campbell led the squad with three blocks, to go along with six kills on the day.

  • Junior Leoni Kunz notched five kills and a block.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"William & Mary showed up, locked in, and I didn't think our focus matched theirs. That put us on our heels from the start and out of position to make the plays we needed to defensively. That put pressure on our serve and pass game and we were not able to stay clean. We have a day to get prepared to fight to get a road split tomorrow," said head coach Kristin Belzung.

NEXT UP:
The Seawolves return to Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va., tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the second of two matches at William & Mary.
