VAN CORTLANDT PARK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's cross country team continued their standout season this afternoon with a third-place overall finish at the 2022 IC4A Cross Country Championship. This is now the 18
th consecutive meet that the squad finished top-10 dating back to October of 2018, and the fourth straight this year.
As a team, Stony Brook collected 87 points and finished 17 points behind second-place finisher, Cornell University. Princeton University came in first place with 33 total points.
Graduate
Robert Becker led the pack for the Seawolves as he was the first-place finisher for the squad and 10
th overall. Becker has been the top runner on the team in all of his races this season, winning two of the four meets.
The Seawolves would have three more runners place within the top-20 of the pack.
Carlos Santos Jr.,
Shane Henderson, and
Aiden Smyth finished in 16
th, 19
th, and 20
th-place.
Just outside the top-20 was junior
Evan Brennan, as the New York native came in 22
nd-place. Coming in shortly after Brennan was
Conor Malanaphy, finishing in 36
th-place to round out the top-five runners for Stony Brook.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Becker recorded a time of 24:14.0 and ran an average mile of 7:45.9. This was the third top-10 finish of the year for the graduate.
- Santos took home a second-place finish on the team and 16th overall as he crossed the finish line in 24:34.4 and ran at a pace of 7:52.2 per mile.
- Henderson was the next Seawolf to finish, as he clocked a final time of 24:36.0 and ran at a pace of 7:53.2 per mile. Shortly after Henderson was Smyth, coming in at 24:40.5 with a pace of 7:58.5 per mile.
- Rounding out the top-five finishers for Stony Brook was Brennan completing the race in 24.41.9.

The guys are a little disappointed with finishing third, but realize that we are in a good place with our fitness as we head towards the championship phase of the season," said head coach
