STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook volleyball team was defeated by the Charleston Cougars in straight sets (25-27, 22-25, 20-25) on Saturday afternoon at Pritchard Gymnasium.
Stony Brook showed a lot of fight in the first set, climbing out of a five-point deficit and eventually forcing set-point. Ultimately, the Cougars came back to seal the deal on the first set, 27-25.
The second set went point-for-point with Stony Brook and Charleston tied 12-12. But after a kill from senior outside hitter Lexi Wierzbicki on the next point, the Cougars never looked back. Charleston remained in the lead for the rest of the set and won, 25-22.
Wierzbicki finished the match with a team-lead 10 kills, hit a .368 clip and added three digs.
Stony Brook got up to a 3-0 lead in the third set, but Charleston had the lead when it was 10-9. The Cougars pulled away late in the third set and won, 25-20.

Kali Moore shined throughout the match, tallying a match-high 16 kills, 27 attempts, and had a team-high nine digs. Moore hit a .556 clip.
The Seawolves will look for redemption against the Cougars on Sunday.
STATS AND NOTES
- Moore's 16 kills were her fifth-most in a match this season. She has now had 15+ kills in a match eight times.
- Junior setter Torri Henry dished out a team-best 29 assists. She also picked up eight digs in the match.
- The Seawolves totaled 117 attack attempts and Charleston totaled 98.
- Stony Brook paced the Cougars in aces, 7-4.
- This was the first-ever match between Charleston and Stony Brook in volleyball.
- Stony Brook fell to 9-13 overall and 4-9 in CAA play this season.
